Right, makes sense. Luckily I got the cap off and the tightened-on crank seems fine now. I just took it for a ride around the block and I definitely like the ride and the way the frame feels. New issues: The headset is smooth but has some friction; the bearings in the right pedal click and grind when under load (at least I hope that's what that was); the brakes need adjustment and squeak horribly. And I'm sure there will be more. Still very pleased with my new pretty toy, though, so thanks again!
