Also a bit expensive but I've seen these as grail bikes for the era, as far as mass-produced MTBs go.

1989-90 Bianchi Super Grizzly - 19.5” - $500

This popped up on CL.

Univega Gran Sprint Road bike 56cm - $240 (Arcata)

image 1 of 4

© craigslist - Map data © OpenStreetMapbicycle frame material: steel
bicycle type: road
condition: excellent
frame size: Medium 56 cm
make / manufacturer: Univega
model name / number: Gran sprint
wheel size: 700C
Hi there!
Up for sale is my beloved 12 speed Univega Road bike in excellent condition. It rides incredible smooth and is a great collectors item for anyone interested in vintage road bikes from the mid 80s. This bike was made in Japan and has a triple butted CrMo alloy frame (steel) and is light like aluminum, but a more flexible and forgiving ride. Brakes and wheels have been well rehabbed and maintained. Tires like new.
Thank you!

Mother pusbucket!

Is it warm in here? Good thing it's two states away or I'd throw caution (and the new bike that should ship today) to the wind and greedily snatch that beauty up with my hot little hands. Wow.

Like it?? Did you see those thumbies? That non-Mountech derailleur? It's too upright, but that's easily fixed. Good gravy, look at that fork crown!

The one above in Savanah is likely too big. Not as nicely componented either.

You're a filthy rotten enabler, merziac. I'm still trying to find out anything about it; it looks glorious, but if it's gaspipe, it's not worth it. I may take you up on your offer; we'll see.

Pretty sure that's a Tange sticker on the ST and fork, forged mixte RDO's and beautiful fork crown, made in Japan, not Taiwan, nice enough lugs and stellar paint.

No gaspipe here, this is a stunning example in great shape IMO, I would love to help get this to you.
