eBay / CraigsList finds - "Are you looking for one of these!?" Part II

>> Looks like a 620 24"
Regarding post #66200 -- this bike was posted a few days ago already, and since I have a friend in Traverse City, I spent some time with the catalogs. It's definitely from 1984-87, given the head badge, and it looks to me like a 1987 520, both from the colors and the description.
I agree it's a 24" -- too tall for a 22 and I don't think it's a 25.5, which was the tallest listed.
It's not an auction; it's buy it now for $80 and no shipping offered. Absolutely worth it but do I really need another bike? We know what @gugie would say. I should take his advice and keep it at my buddy's house as an N=0 bike(TM).
Also, being a 27" cantilever-braked bicycle, it's not something that lends itself to a 650b conversion, so 700c and 35 mm tires + fenders is probably it at best... at which point i should just ride one of my Cannondales. OTOH it has no lowrider braze-ons and I have JUST the right vintage Blackburn front rack for it.. that would look so precious
cheers -mathias

This Gazelle Champion Mondial posted about 10 days ago on Craigslist in Durham, NC.
I wouldn’t have spotted it except I was searching for a 56cm road bike, and that’s the size originally posted.
So I went to see it, quite sure I had a great replacement for my recently incapacitated Gitane (steerer damage).
https://raleigh.craigslist.org/bik/d...435606004.html
Gazelle Champion Mondial - $500vintage road bicycle Gazelle 'Champion Mondial', made from Reynolds 531 steel, with Shimano 600 'Arabesque' brakeset and derailleurs, Campagnolo shift levers and dropouts. Size 58cm. $500obo (w/o Brooks saddle). Ready to ride, very lightweight, and in working condition.

I could not have been more impressed…or disappointed. It was 58cm, so my hopes were dashed. Because the bike is fantastic, and in race-ready condition. Mavic Module E rims, perfectly true wheels, kool stop brake pads, smooth drive train…just tight and right all over, dammit...
The young man selling it had recently returned from the a 2-year assignment in the Netherlands, and had purchased it there from a block of Gazelles owned by a racing team in the 80s. They were hanging in the warehouse. First two photos were in the Craigslist post. I added a few photos of my own under that…congrats to whoever ends up owning it...and don't forget to ask for the fenders.

This always chaps me, take the damn thing off.
When I see a pic "with" the Brooks, it is already factored in and becomes the deal breaker that was never included.
This is a good example and I'm not saying this isn't worth it without but the ask is up there if I were a buyer, with the brooks still wouldn't get me there.
Like I said, take the damn thing off.
And get off my lawn!

I guess it's fairly common knowledge (among all of us) that the "saddle not included" issue is a potential red flag.
In the first pic I posted after his original two, which shows the bars and head badge, you'll spot the saddle he replaced the Brooks with before meeting with me. I imagine he just neglected to post a new pic with the replacement saddle after we parted, and thus didn't remove the "SNI" comment from his Craigslist posting. And I didn't think to suggest this, either, because the new saddle was already in place.
Incidentally, you'll notice in my photos that he removed the nice fenders that were in the original post, perhaps when he returned stateside...but he didn't mention that in his post either. They're included with the sale, though not original to the bike.
Also, I'll bet I'm not the only one that thinks it's a mistake to insert OBO after an asking price, which invites low-balling and/or indicates seller desperation (he wasn't desperate).
Hey, we're all experienced with Craigslist, and this seller definitely isn't. I expect he didn't post current photos because his focus is elsewhere, and he just wants to find the bike a nice home. (He did tell me the bike was just a bit too small for him.)
As the saying goes, "you had to be there". I thoroughly researched the model before I met the seller and saw the bike in person...it's no bait and switch scam, IMHO. Just naivete on the seller's part, all due respect to him, and to those responding to this post.

Don't ever really think of the not included as a bait and switch, just irritating.
The OBO is all on the seller, opens the door, your own acumen will determine how it closes.

So all good if you had a positive experience and gained some insight and brand knowledge along the way, they can be a great part of the whole process in the long run.

Oh, and I do have a Trek 520 that I've cleaned up and am posting...it's a little large to keep, but I'll put my wheelset on it and use it when the weather breaks here. And spare, alternate bike is definitely in the cards...

Seller just dropped this from $350 to $300 so might be willing to accept less.
I think there was a Sprint and a Nouvo Sprint. Unsure what I see due to very poor photos and worse descriptors. No where near me and just offering as not enough people know the Torpado brand so potentially a good deal.
Perhaps @randyjawa might offer his thoughts or @juvela might offer his?

I think there was a Sprint and a Nouvo Sprint. Unsure what I see due to very poor photos and worse descriptors. No where near me and just offering as not enough people know the Torpado brand so potentially a good deal.
Perhaps @randyjawa might offer his thoughts or @juvela might offer his?

appears early 1980's and in good nick
looks near to the time of the Agrati-Garelli acquisition
price sounds quite reasonable
images too poor to say much more
definitely worth a visit would think

Seller just dropped this from $350 to $300 so might be willing to accept less.

I would pay $300 for that apparently little used and original bike. I owned a similar on, years ago, and was more than pleased with it. But, as is usually the case with me, I let it go to someone who wanted it more than I did. These days I tend to focus on much older bikes but, in my opinion, any little use near 100% original eighties road bike is easily worth three hundred bucks.
