Centurion Ironman Bike - $200 (Libertyville)

Reply to: sale-chxg4-1963522634@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

I am listing this bike for my husband

He used to compete in triathalons and used this bike.

It has been changed slightly (seat, peddles, handlebars) - just these parts alone would sell for over $200

Anyway - it's a great bike - lightweight (about 30 pounds)

If you have any questions - shoot me an email and I'll have my husband respond. He knows more about it than me.

Thanks!

I would like to no more about the ICS modifications. What is the "3D" modification all about on the rear derailleur and why the chain guards? Well, I guess with a bike that gorgeous you wouldn't want any possibility that the chain might touch the frame... I guess? Either way, probably the most beautiful bike I've ever seen, even as someone generally not inclined toward full chrome.

Well, a really quick Google search provided some answers. Found catalog scans of explanations of the modified components, seen here. I'm still not sure what it's saying about the 3D rear derailleur. Is it basically allowing for more effective gear combinations to be used than normal?

Nice and I mean really nice 1981 Steyr Puch Waffenrad 3-speed bicycle - $250 (Fort Collins, CO) up for sale close by. Lots more pictures in the ad.

http://i930.photobucket.com/albums/a...affenrad01.jpg

Up for sale is a 1981 Steyr-Puch Waffenrad 3-speed bicycle. This bike is a unique classic...the Waffenrad was in production for close to 100 years in Austria. The name Waffenrad, which translates to "weapon wheel" referred to the steel that was originally used to make the bike. The steel was the same as used for the barrels of various weaponry. This bike has a Torpedo three-speed hub, (which works) and generator for the front light. This works nicely and the wiring is hidden in the frame. Unfortunately, the rear light is missing, but there is quite a fan-base for this bike, so finding a replacement shouldn't be too hard. The paint is in good shape..there are a few scuffs, but it still looks great. One of the best things about the bike is the front brake, which is commonly referred to as a "spoon-brake". This is a very old style...usually found on bikes before the 1920s/30s. The lever actually pushes a brake down onto the tire. The coaster brake works well, and the bike is completely rideable. This bike is a true classic and is quite handsome to ride.
Come check it out!

$250

If interested, please call Jerry at (970) xxx-xxxx.

I know this is not CL or e-bay - but I was thinking of loading up on leather bar tape.
With $20 off, I could get 3 bikes done for a little over $100.
Anyone have experience with this - seems like a good deal

The Thin Man 09-20-10 05:04 PM

Philly, you bring up a good point I've been meaning to post on. Does anyone know where to get self-adhesive leather (or synthetic) darker brown tape? I'd like to match an older, brown, suede Selle Italia. If so, please post back (although this isn't in the right forum) or PM me.

This is a great little bike, perfect for cruising around town and for some longer day trips ( I took it out to Walden Pond a couple of times). I'm 5'4" so I think it would fit anyone from 5' to 5'6". The bike is in great shape with a sturdy steel frame that will last forever. I just put a new back tire on it a month ago, but the paint job is a little dinked up.

Contact me if interested!

More for the curiosity factor than anything, here's a C-record grouppo by ICS - the folks who build that ridiculously gorgeous chrome/SR bike.

Thanks for posting this CL find. I contacted the seller and purchased the Peugeot today. Looks to be the PL model, not PX. It has a 1966 City of Los Angeles license sticker on the seat tube. Seller had it reasonably priced. I'm doing a bit of research on it, will post pics in a few days.

Beautiful, Silver brazed lugwork on this low mile, light, tight Reynolds 531 frame. 56 cm, with a classic sport/touring geometry, this bicycle can load up with panniers, and has plenty of room for fenders. Off with the panniers, and your ready for a swift solo morning ride. Italian Ambrosia 19 rims laced to Suntour cyclone hubs. This 1987 Elance, made during the peak of of the steel bicycle manufacturing era, quite simply;- rides like silk. The Elance 400 bike often easily ebays for 300. Call Chris: 262-695-4451.

Agreed, and sort of a sleeper ad. Good thing I rode my bike to work today or I'd probably already be on my way.:innocent:

Chicago Al 09-22-10 11:36 AM

Any chance of a local facilitator helping me out with that Ironman? I will drop a line to the seller and see what the status is...bike may already be sold. It sounds like the bike has clinchers mounted and the tubular wheels are a throw-in...I would be happy to leave those with the facilitator, among other inducements.
