That tandem in Rochester has been for sale for a long, long time.
Perhaps seller might deal...?

I think the baby boomers who bought them back in the 70s and 80s are starting to age out of cycling, especially if one of the partners has health issues or has just lost interest. After it's hung on the hooks in the garage for 20+ years and you're downsizing, eventually you just want to get rid of it.

There seems to be plenty of bargain priced tandems for sale lately. Asking prices for tandems like these are less than the asking price for a lot of similarly equipped single bikes.

Also picked up an unknown custom builder one with full TA, good wheels and most all other parts for $120 awhile back so I'm set considering I will probably be unable to get Ms. merziac on one, ever.

I bought a bike off this guy 2 yrs ago, and actually suggested the asking price for this tandem, while there picking up the other bike. My knowledge was very limited, but based on what i saw, and the condition, seemed like a plausible starting point. Very nice guy. I have no connection, and did not stay in contact with him. Kinda felt bad that it is still listed, but also confident he would figure it out.
Tandems are albatrosses for the most part, shipping nightmare, don't really hold their value no matter what and fitment is a crapshoot far more so than normal.
A partout is likely the only profitable at all scenario here.

If I wasn't drowning in projects right now (and esp. drowning in wheels sets) I'd consider a drive. Rochester, is only 90 minutes from the border. I want a 40 hole wheelset to replace the 36s on my touring build. Unfortunately, knowing my own stupidity, I'd probably keep it as a built up bike rather than part it even though it doesn't fit and I have nowhere to store it......

"Good" rims back then were often anything but, and time is never kind to them.

And yes, I'm glad its not close to me either, also just realized the cranks look to still have the backside pedal eye inserts, pita to be sure but an added extra one none the less.
