DAVE SCOTT'S Custom Zunow bicycle frame / fork - 1980's A six time Ironman World Championship winner, Kona, Hawaii.
This Bike frame was made for Dave Scott some time in the 1980's Made by Zunow Bicycle works Osaka Japan. The Diamond back decals must have been placed as a sponsor for him at the time. I know Dave Scott personally owned the frame, I do know if he raced it or not. This frame is from a collection of bikes from Boulder CO. There is a short funny story of how it got into that collection i can share with the new owner.
The Zunow brand, founded in 1965 by Japanese master builder Takeru Kageyama. Zunow means "genius" and that is the intended translation. The mid to late 1980s were revolutionary with Kageyama pioneering and patenting a number of unique and innovative designs under his own name. These included the “Pentagla” pentagon-shaped chain stays. This frame has the distinctive Zunow hummingbird cast into the underside of Bottom bracket and Pentagla chainstays. Frame is certainly one of a kind with many distinctive features. The brake bridge is a unique biplane design with Dave Scott's name onto brake bridge, fork crown and seat stays. I am not sure of the frame material, Zunow made frames with Triple butted Tange tubing.

That Cannondale is a 27" ST*00 from anywhere in the 80s. It is not an "SR" -- too much distance between the rear wheel and the seat tube. The brakes have been wisely replaced with Tektro 559s, and the pads are pushed all the way up in the slots to accomodate 700c wheels.
These are great for really tall folks, because they are light and stiff, and that would be hard to accomplish in steel at this size.
