This classic machine has a quality frame set and rigid fork that flew under the radar of many buyers until now. This was very light and super handling that you would expect from a race ready MTB at the time. This one has all of the typical upgrades for this era: Specialized Son Of Strongarm crankset (Specialized had a big aftermarket sales presence), Tom Ritchey rear wheel, Araya lightweight front wheel, both of which show little to no wear. CNC cantilever center pull brakes. Bontrager alloy handlebars, Fitzik lightweight seat (tired, has Lycra seat cover). Specialized alloy pedals with toe clips. Period correct tires which have very good tread, newer tubes hold air fine.
19” frame center to top, 22 1/2” top tube, 29 1/2 “ standover height.
This bike can be ridden, but is not shifting. Cables need tuning or replacement.

This Bike frame was made for Dave Scott some time in the 1980's Made by Zunow Bicycle works Osaka Japan. The Diamond back decals must have been placed as a sponsor for him at the time. I know Dave Scott personally owned the frame, I do know if he raced it or not. This frame is from a collection of bikes from Boulder CO. There is a short funny story of how it got into that collection i can share with the new owner.
The Zunow brand, founded in 1965 by Japanese master builder Takeru Kageyama. Zunow means "genius" and that is the intended translation. The mid to late 1980s were revolutionary with Kageyama pioneering and patenting a number of unique and innovative designs under his own name. These included the “Pentagla” pentagon-shaped chain stays. This frame has the distinctive Zunow hummingbird cast into the underside of Bottom bracket and Pentagla chainstays. Frame is certainly one of a kind with many distinctive features. The brake bridge is a unique biplane design with Dave Scott's name onto brake bridge, fork crown and seat stays. I am not sure of the frame material, Zunow made frames with Triple butted Tange tubing.
