Not sure what this is but seller says it's a Trek, it has internally route cables and (I think) 9 speed Shimano barcons for $100

Bianchi Limited (c. 1988), Shimano 600 Tricolor - $300

It's with a heavy heart I have to sell this bike, but I'm moving into a smaller apartment and at 58cm ST, it runs just a bit too big for my height.

High performance 80s steel - Bianchi Limited, my research indicates probably ~1988, pewter/gunmetal paint with pink and celeste green highlights.

Frame is marked as proprietary Japenese Tange steel built for Bianchi. The bike has some surface wear - light surface corrosion in some areas, some patina on the decals and stickers, but otherwise very reliable.

Measures about 58cm at the seat tube, about 57cm at the top tube. I hover around 5'11", and have ridden multiple centuries on this bike. That being said, I would recommend this for someone 6' or taller atmo.

Components are almost all original. Took this on a ride last weekend and forgot how smooth and sturdy, fast yet quiet, Shimano 600 (Ultegra, pre-Ultegra) components are. Other than the fact that this bike predates Shimano brake-shifters, this group still ranks very highly in people's favorite across the decades, both in aesthetics and performance.

Shimano 600 Tri-color 2x7 drive train
600 down tube index shifters
Shimano 600 brakes
Original rear Matrix rim and 600 hub
Aero Brake levers are original 600 - the hoods are definitely getting gummy, but I've heard replacements from this era can be difficult to find, so I've left them as is.

Front rim is also Matrix - but with a Matrix hub, appears to be a replacement part.
Stem is a modern polished Soma brand quill, and seat post is just generic 80s.
Bottom bracket was replaced with a modern sealed bearing, has less than 100 miles. Headset is a basic Tange, also installed very recently.
Saddle on there now is a modern perforated white Fizik Arione, but I can swap that for a vintage white San Marco Rolls, or for $30 will include both.
Tires are Continental Grand Prix Classics, 700x25. They have some wear, but plenty of miles left in the rubber. Like the saddle, can included some Continental Gatorskins, 700x23, for $50 more.

I hope this bike finds someone who is willing to put in time keeping it running for years to come. Or, conversely, finds someone who will use it like I did - a gateway to putting hundreds more miles to explore the suburbs of Boston, to the beaches North and South, and a gateway to bike history. Or both!

Email if you have any questions. Can accept Venmo or cash.

I have to say, Rich, Scott has this one right. The RockCombo was
actually pretty different than the Rock Hopper, a much lower BB and
also significantly more aggressive steering. I've owned one and
ridden both, and they feel -very- different on the road / trail.

The folks at Specialized put a good bit of effort into making the RC
something different. It's really a shame it didn't work out.

For the curious, here's an email from BB, who was involved with the RC
design when he was at Specialized.

BB said:
Well, it's kind of a sad story. The bike that got designed was not the bike
that got built due to a manufacturing screw up. The design was a 72 degree
parallel main triangle with 1 3/4" rake and about a 17" rear end. I don't
remember exactly but the BB height was down around 11". The idea was to take
a mountain bike, steepen it up a bit and then lower the BB height to gain a
little more stability, while still being higher than a touring bike so that
there was clearance for offroad use. The tubeset was to be lighter as well.

Ibis made me a prototype which rode very well indeed. But the manufacturer
pulled a fast one a delivered a bike with a heavier tubeset than I had in
mind and the BB height was wrong. I can't remember whether it was too high
or too low, but I didn't like the ride. We made exactly one production run
and then that was it. Two things killed it: 1) The factory execution was
crap 2) Grant Peterson and I picked a 26" wheel format and the rest of the
industry went 700c. They won.

Grant and I wanted the more durable wheel size and at Specialized I had the
ability to make 26" road tires, such as the Fat Boy.

If you found one today it would be well suited as an urban commute rig. I
saw one downtown just a couple of weeks ago. As you said, they almost never
turn up because there were only something like 500 of them.

and another:

BB said:
Well, it was never a clone of Grant's bikes and in fact Grant started making flared drop bars after I produced an aftermarket set for Cunningham at Specialized. This bike was modeled after various drop bar mountain bikes I had been making in the shop I ran prior to coming to Specialized. At the time we were the only shop to sell Cunninghams and sold his flared Cinelli bars and LD stems by Potts and later Ibis. I had busted my back in the 83 Rockhopper (a race before it was a bike for Specialized) and had spent the years after trying to find a way to still ride on smooth dirt roads without pain. Lots of experimentation with modifying various offroad frames & cross bikes led to a final design which I had Ibis build as a prototype. Wish I still had it because it was quite nice. You are correct about the factory substituting heavier tubing and the wrong BB height, but what really killed this bike was the idustry's move to 700c as the format of choice for the emerging hybrid market. Grant Peterson and I had agreed that we would both use 26" as the wheel of choice, a decision that did not work out for either of us. In the end, no one wanted hybrids aimed at the performance end of the market and we folded this one up after one year.

-BB (my name on the bars there)"
This is all fantastic stuff! Looks like I was wrong, the 22" would be one size too big, need that 19". And cool to see they came in two colorways, I'd go with the blue/green given the choice. Really interesting backstory about the fatal flaws, it's really too bad, but at the same time it kinda adds to the lore of this bike.

(looks like) '71 or '72 PX-10 in Nashville $275

If I lived nearby I'd be going to check this out (would maybe even consider if seller would ship, but he won't). My beloved PX-10 is just a tad too small, this frame would be just right...
Or.... anyone in the area that might consider facilitating...?

Here, I'll do this right off the bat:

After our discussion about the Specialized Rock Combo, something began niggling me. It was like having Sheldon from Big Bang knocking on the back door of my brain.

Here's the bike from the ad asking $950:

After reading the specs on the RC, I realized that the bike design these guys were describing is a 26-inch Surly Long Haul Trucker! So I did a local search on CL, and found this for $900:

It's essentially the same bike, but with the lighter tubeset the designer BB had specified and the bottom bracket in the right place. Fifty bucks cheaper? This is the one I would go after.
