Knowing that I helped someone obtain more vintage bicycles is reward enough (but thanks and good luck with this one- nice late 80's 105 component upgrades on this early 80's bike).

Bike is actually hanging from the ceiling. Picture has been flipped. Look at the roll of tape and the bagger.

Your post had me for a sec, I also knew it was upside down but missed it being out of the drops. So when I went to look at "clearance" issues, at first I couldn't figure out how the rim could be too small for brake reach, but too big where tire was crushed to the seat tube? One or the other! Just as my brain was about to pop, I saw it was out of the drops

In any case, 'Frek' (which is one of the Herse team's rides) is based off of an '82 600. Sounds like the bike can serve as a perfect randonneur donor, as the geometry makes it a great candidate. Here is an interesting article about it:
