Bianchi Trofeo Road Bike 52cm Excellent Condition - $450 (Philadelphia)

Date: 2010-11-17, 1:03AM EST
Reply to: sale-atzvn-2064741686@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

Up for sale is my 1988 Bianchi Trofeo road bike size 52cm, it is in great condition featuring many original components. Recently replaced on the bike are bar tape, brake pads + brake hoods, brake + derailuer cables, and tires... not even 50 miles on any of these parts. During the time these parts were installed the bike was tuned up by a certified bike tech, so you can be sure everything is functioning at best. To say the least this is a beautiful bike... fast, light, and a blast to ride. It's sure to be a head turner.

NOTE:
Pictured with the bike are crank bros clipless pedals, these pedals will not be included in the sale. The bike is to be sold with brand new pedals with clips and straps, if not interested in pedals at all I will drop the price down to 440.

Reply to: sale-ydrze-2065812485@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

Complete Vintage Wooden Boxed Campy "Racer" Tool kit.
Was the Tool Kit brought to the races for "day of" repairs and freewheel building for specific conditions.
Great Nostaligic addition to any vintage bike collection. Circa late 70's early 80's.
Was used by my Uncle in the Coor's Classic for the Denver Spoke team.
All tools are in great shape and very usable, for your old projects.

25" Mizutani Seraph Super

Hello Bikeaholics:

Anyway, I drove up to Colfax today to look at this:

https://sacramento.craigslist.org/bik/2055451954.html

Mostly because I had never actually seen one in the
flesh. It's the genuine article, not particularly well cared
for mechanically, but only ridden for about 4 years early
in its life and stored since. Paint is oxidized, but might rub
out. It measures out at @25" seat tube and 23 1/2"
top tube.

The seller appears to be a genuinely nice
human being and wants the bike to go to someone
who will ride and enjoy it. No fixie transformers should
apply. Tubular rims, pretty nice Shimano hubs, dropouts
are quite elegant for the period, chromed fork, lugs, and
(I think) rear triangle. Please do not pester the guy asking
to buy the damn headbadge. He really has some emotional
attatchment to the bike and wants it ridden by someone
appreciative.

If I can run interference for you in any
reasonable way, I will do so. But I would prefer to stay
out of the loop. Hope this connects for someone.

But that bike can't possibly weigh 9 pounds. Did you straighten the guy out? Or does he have a mis-calibrated scale?

He weighed it by stepping on his bathroom scale with and
without the bicycle. Honestly, he was so nice a guy and
so enamored of his lightweight bicycle, that all i could say
was something like "well, it's probably a little heavier than
that, but it's still a very nice bicycle and I'm pretty sure
somebody with longer legs than mine is gonna love it."

Who knows how accurate his bathroom scale is?

It's definitely DB tubing, at least in the main triangle,
and since everybody seems to think these were made
from Ishiwata, I'm guessing it's a reasonably comfy
ride. Would be a potential nut crusher for me 'though.
And i don't do flips or partouts (with the exception of
Walmart Roadmasters for the homeless guys at the Bike Kitchen.)

Mike, I am really tempted. What condition was the chrome in and did you happen to notice the model of Sugino/Suntour components?

Mercian Superlight 1970 Savannah GA

From Craigslist link11/18/2010

Mercian Superlight

Frame is size 24 Ό” Reynolds 531 butted throughout with angles of 72 x 73 degrees. Finish is chrome plated with red trim. Headset is needle-bearing Weyless with Campagnolo head nut. Cinelli equipment is: saddle with Weyless seat pin, #64 bar, 130mm stem extension, and Cinelli style crown fork with 2” offset. Crank set and arms are TA with Campagnolo pedals with clips and straps. Wheels are spoked X3 with 2x butted spokes with small flange Campagnolo Record hubs. Dural rims are for clincher tires. The tires have very little wear. Brakes are Shimano Dura-Ace side-pull. Crank set is TA 3-pin with one 47T chain ring.
I had the frame built for myself by Mercian Cycles Ltd. in Derby, England. It was delivered in 1970, raced until 1977, and ridden with pleasure for a number of years later. It has been stored in a weatherproof structure and never spent a night out. There is some sweat rust on the brake caliper locking levers, but everything is in perfect mechanical order. The chrome plating has no blemishes.
I specified the frame be light for time-trialing, so there is some sacrifice of stiffness. Over the 9 years I raced, I felt it ideal. The chain ring is 47T. Present gearing is 3-sp. for 71”-79”-85”. The three cogs are 15, 16, and 17 teeth.
Payment by cash or certified check.

The chrome had just a very, very light surface
rust in a few places on the lower fork. Most of the
rear triangle is painted, but again, the chrome is
far from perfect but I have polished out worse
looking stuff in my life. The hubs were Shimano
of a model witi which I am unfamiliar- no actual
numbers or names on them, just a little circle
with some wavy lines. The oldest Suntour V
rear derailleur I've ever seen, and I used to
ride around on Suntour stuff in the 80's because
it worked so well. Looked like it might be loose
in the dropout hole though.
I'm sorry, I did not really take a good look at the
crank other than to determine that it was sound.
Seemed pretty typical Sugino of the era, from
what I remember. The quill pedals are pretty
rusty and i would not count on restoring them.

He's a really nice guy, if you PM me I'll shoot you
his phone number and you can ask questions
yourself. Oops, I just saw it in the ad. His name is
Rich.

All I can say is that if I were looking for one of these
and it was my size (actually just if it was my size)
I would already have it.

I would be all over this if it were closer, but I can't justify the shipping, nor do I know that it would fit. I already have a few 3-speeds that are too small for me. Still I hope someone who appreciates such things will snag it.
