For the record, it seems that @bark_eater and I were both bidding on that seat post - or rather he was going for the whole pile and I just wanted that seat post.

Photos for posterity. It will need cleaning and polishing.

25.4 SR post. I have no bikes it would fit, I was only interested in it as a curio, I'd never seen one quite like it.

Thank you to @juvela for posting those photos!
After looking again at the photos he provided, I guess my idea that you could hang a seat bag off of the post is a non-starter as I'd assume the the seat post ears when mounted to a saddle would cover those holes....

thank you for the information

slots also provide mounting point for strap which could hold a spare tubular or a rain cape

you've certainly got an oddity there!

I have to be careful when I look at these oddities! I haven't anything that would fit it - assuming seller measured properly. I believe the advertising said they started at 25.8mm not 25.4mm.

When I see @bertinjim he suggests I need another french bike and french bikes seem to love thin seat posts!!!

This mid-60's. I have a '63 in my garage that is stripped still I need a replacement crank set) and that looks very close. Seat aside, this is in pretty good shape for being about 60 yers old.....

tough to go wrong with bertinjim as an advisor/consultant.

he has more velo savvy than i could accumulate in several lifetimes.

those slots on the pillar are so robust cannot help but think they may have been intended for something relatively substantial such as a rack or trailer hitch - usual wylde speculation on me part

...or how about the mount for a tandem stoker's handlebar...

I'm still not sure whats happening here.... But as to the physical properties of this seat post, it looks to me that it is assemble incorrectly. The nutted bolts should be through the loops allowing adjustment of the seat tilt. The photo shows proper assembly.

That's correct. The slots are part of the saddle clamp assembly and enable micro-adjustable seat tilt angles.

When I worked in shops in the '70s, I much preferred this design (usually encountered in the Simplex version) to the coarsely adjustable and easily stripped type used on straight steel posts and even to the Campy two-bolt posts, with the all-but-inaccessible front bolt requiring repeated attempts to get the angle right.

The type being discussed here, with the vertical slots behind the clamp, is much easier to adjust: loosen the nuts, set the angle by tilting the saddle up or down so that the bolt slides up or down in the slots, tighten the bolts; done.

1970s Lambert Grand Prix (Philadelphia PA)

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...8912206206976/

$400; There was a recall on those Lambert/Viscount aluminum "death forks". Logos all the place lol; on the brakes, shifters drop bars, etc but that was how it came from the factory.

Schwinn Prelude (Blackwood NJ)

$115. This model used Columbus Tenax tubing (jury is still out on whether its a rebranded Columbus SL or SP ). Either way the price seems reasonable.

It's probably missing the pedal dust caps. I've often wondered if that was factory, too.

*edit* Just checked the pix and both caps are missing.

Those Lambert bars have a deeper-than normal drop.

Interesting history, not super clear, pics of some frames with very different looks. Some he made, some he had made?

possible that paint finish may be a respray done by his son following the retirement and move back home to Barcelona of Francisco

his son kept workshop going for a time following the father's retirement

the son offered braze-ons, repairs and painting but no new construction

do not wish to assert that this is the case - mention it only as a possibility...

I had the same thought, but no knowledge to confirm. Recently spoke to a bike builder friend of mine who had worked with the son a bit on some paint projects in NYC.

I've always been suspicious that Tenax is actually Cromor, maybe with a mix of wall thicknesses, and Schwinn just didn't want to admit it. If so, there's no reason to look down on it as "less than" SL or SP. Just a different manufacturing process. I've heard this rumor in a few places, but no one outside of Schwinn executives know.
