If it were my size and in Chicago, it'd be in my basement right now.

I have never heard of this bike before, but I WANT this. I have zero need for it. Zero (mutters to self: ZERO). Someone snap it up and ride it so I can see better pics.

Vintage Skyway 3-Speed which appears to be in fab condition. Needs a chaincase. Yes, THAT'S why I shouldn't buy it. Because it needs a chaincase! <more muttering>

Hey guys, do you have any idea where I can find an old vintage race bike? I'm thinking the 60's, 70's or 80's. I want something that was considered a very good bike maybe something that has won the TDF a few times. I'm also looking to restore it. I have a dream of finding an old race bike just lying in the field rusted up and completely restoring it. I really dont know where to look or what to look for. I have only been into bikes for about 10 months or so so dont have much knowledge. I'm in Dallas and and willing to pay for shipping for the right bike. I think I would like it to be aluminum or something light weight as I would like to get into road racing and race it at some point. Oh and I'm 6 ft so I was told 56 cm would be a good size.
Thanks guys!!
Aaron

North Irving, it doesnt have to be aluminum, I just want something that would be light weight and I dont know if that would be possible with a steel frame. Right now I have an older centurion steel frame road bike that weighs a good bit more than my FS mountain bike.

Ebay and craigslist are good places to start. You can also watch the various For Sale subforums and threads on this website, or check out Serotta Forums and RoadBikeReview.com. But if you're looking for something free or near free, you better go scout your local fields!

There is plenty of lightweight steel, you just need to search this website and others to figure out what was considered high end at the time. Hang out in the C&V forum for a while and you'll learn something. However, if you're more interested in fitness and training, and see the bike solely as a tool, you might want to hang out in the Road Cycling forum. There are good deals to be had on recently "obsolete" (aka 9 speed) lightweight aluminum racing bikes with integrated shifting. You'll be hard pressed to find one rusting in a field though, especially if it's aluminum!

Is there a "Want to Buy" thread? Couldn't find it, so I'm posting this here in the meantime. Maybe someone will bump into one on ebay, CL, or any other marketplace and will want to relay the info.

1992 Schwinn Paramount PDG Series 5 - White with Purple Slime

Yes, that ugly old thing. Had an uncle who owned one back then, and I remember loving it as a kid. Now that I'm sort of grown up I aim to find one for myself.

I know it's a long shot, but If someone sees one in the 52 to 56 cm range, PLEASE hit me up. I will be forever grateful.

Yeah, it took me awhile to get used to the paint scheme. But I like it now.

A Classic JOHN HOWARD road bike: 55cm

Built by expert frame builder Dave Moulton in San Marcos in 1983.
Too much local history goes with this bike, but it does make a great story.
Only about 250 of these were ever made. This is frame No. #078.
So it is VINTAGE and it is a classic! 17 of the 250 are registered on Dave Moultons web page.

Frame is 55cm Seat tube measures 55cm center to center Top Tube 54cm center to center
Recently rebuilt with full period correct Shimano Dura Ace. Includes aero brake
levers (to hide cables), Cinelli stem, Mavic SUP Reflex wheelset with Dura Ace hubs.
Color is called Dusty Rose.

Overall condition of the bike is very good. One small paint chip on seat tube

Does not include pedals!

Feel free to ask questions. A great riding steel frame bike

Asking $1000.00 No Trades No scammers Reply only if your interested thanks

Peugeot PX-10 road bike. Reynolds 531. 59.5 cm. - $700 (Sierra Madre)

Date: 2011-01-20, 12:15PM PST
Reply to: sale-smuks-2170918481@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

Known for Tour de France wins and an excellent Reynolds 531 frameset,
Peugeot's PX-10 models are sought after by collectors worldwide.

My bike appears to be mid-70's, perhaps a 1974 PX-10 LE model.
The Reynolds 531 decal is on the downtube indicating approximate year of 1974 and ff.

Details-
Reynolds 531 tubing with chromed chain and seat stays.
Stronglight cranks and rings.
Simplex front derailleur.
Suntour rear derailleur and bar-ends (replacement).
Mafac competition center-pull brakes.
Dia-Compe brake levers (replacement).
Simplex seat post.
Simplex dropouts.
Ridgida 700 clinchers.
Peugeot Professional Trophy hubs with high flanges.
Schwalbe tires.

This is a rare collector's piece that I am passing along to an owner
who will appreciate the history and quality.

I think is a about an '83. the msrp for it was around $850 and it has a mix of Grand Sport, Nouvo/Super Record. I could take a peek at it over the weekend if anyone is interested.
