1971 Raleigh Competition frame & fork, Reynolds 531, 53cm - $250 (Logan Square) Date: 2009-10-03, 12:13PM CDT Reply to: sale-m9ryh-1404562376@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] Here is a very nice example of one of the earlier offerings of the Competition (also known as the Gran Sport, which was indicative of the model's later moniker, the Competition G.S.), which was in Raleigh's lineup for over a decade. Frame and fork are Reynolds 531 with forged Zeus dropouts (with adjusters) and fork ends and eyelets for fenders with plenty of clearance. The seat tube measures 21" (53cm) c-to-c and the top tube measures 22" (56cm) c-to-c. The rare white paint is in very good condition with chips and scrapes commensurate with it's age, a few touch ups here and there, but overall the nicest vintage Raleigh I've seen in a while. The Raleigh and Competition decals are in great condition, however the Reynolds transfers are pretty worn, though replacements are not hard to get. The dropouts have been professionally aligned, the seat tube has been honed (27.2mm) and the bottom bracket threads have been chased. Sale includes the frame and fork, the original Carlton "C" seatpost binder bolt, a 27.2mm seatpost and the original headset, which has been repacked. The adjuster barrel for the rear brake straddle hoop is also included. More pictures can be seen here: http://s378.photobucket.com/albums/o...20Competition/ More information on the model can be seen here: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/retroraleighs/ I have dated the bike to 1971 through the S/N, which begins with an "F". In the catalogs on Sheldon Brown's site, you'll notice that the earlier Competiton (1968-1972) is dubbed the "Gran Sport". I am not sure if they are European catalogs and the U.S. version was called the Competition or vise versa. Either way, this a pretty rare versatile frame that will make a wonderful basis for many different types of builds. http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/bik/1404562376.htmlhttp://i378.photobucket.com/albums/o...etition001.jpg |

This is an early 1970's Raleigh Super Course Mk II in excellent condition and good working order. Everything is original and it still has the generator powered front headlight which works. 531 Reynolds tubing. Well used Brooks B15 saddle included. I'm not sure of the exact size of the frame but the bike has a 31" stand over height. Here's a link on sizing if you haven't measured yourself before. http://www.rei.com/expertadvice/articles/bike+fit.html Cranks - Nervar Sport France Rims - Weinmann Brakes - Weinmann 750 Vainqueur 999 Derailleurs - front Huret, back Suntour GT, Huret levers Rust/dents - no dents, a sprinkle of dust on the font brake hanger but that's it http://images.craigslist.org/3ne3p83...a10ff01e81.jpg http://images.craigslist.org/3n03k13...e65db01783.jpg |

Here is a Maruishi on craigslist:
