Neither do I; I'm assuming Kurt checked out the bike in person.

But whatever: it's a steel rim. It can be fixed. I'd use the flat spots as leverage to reduce the price of the bike, and then I'd use a different kind of leverage to get the wheel round again. New spokes may be indicated.

Bingo.

I'm skeptical on both counts. This gent doesn't often take offers, and even a flat-spot removing tool won't salvage the worst of this rim (might improve it, but that's it).

Long ago, when I was a bike mechanic, a cow-orker of mine, also a bike mechanic, took apart a wheel and straightened the bare rim, on the floor. He scribed a circle on the floor as a template. I was very skeptical, but this guy had just gotten an engineering or materials science degree from MIT and really knew what he was doing. He did it because it was a rare size rim. It's not normally worthwhile doing it because it's very labor intensive. Anyway, it worked.

Since then, I've done it a few times. It's rather amazing how well it works. But again, it takes a long time and may not be worthwhile. I strongly prefer aluminum rims over steel, and I'm not a period-perfect purist (PPP?), and I would put aluminum rims on an old bike. Not everyone would, though.

I donno if I wouldn't have picked it out on my own, but the front looks far from round. At 11 O'clock it sticks out, 12 or 1
it comes in. There are other spots. 9 O'clock also looks pretty far out. And 8 O'clock on the rear. Looks really bad in about
picture 5.

I think getting burned on that sort of thing sharpens anyone's eye!

Nice De - Rosa I was visiting my local LBS when this came in, guy was going to take it down to the dump and asked them if they wanted it or just he'd just haul it to the dump, wish I would have seen him before he came in the shop.

Keep in mind the photo is slightly convex as well. Front was reasonable, IIRC.

Raleigh Superbe listed above was in Chicago suburbs, went for $49. Brooks was replaced and it needed some work...but not much.

At least it went to a BF member. I've wanted one for a little while. I can send you pics if you like.

I must have good karma from when I helped another BF member on an item he wanted. I probably could have flipped it myself for a decent profit, but I thought he would appreciate it for his collection. Now, I got a heads up on something that I wanted.

BOO!!! The seller is telling me that he is actually in LaGrange, Il. Why does the Ebay auction say Lombard?

EDIT: Nevermind, the seller just called and said there is a Lagrange near Chicago. Yay!!!
