[h=2]LITTLE 500 OFFICIAL BIKE (1996) - $750 (NORTON 02766)[/h]

Date: 2012-08-16, 4:14PM EDT
Reply to: nzrtb-3210069458@sale.craigslist.org

This "Coaster Brake" RACE Bike was one of the official bikes used in the "Little 500" bike race in 1996.

"The Little 500 (also known popularly as the "Little Five"), is a bicycle race held annually at Bill Armstrong Stadium on the campus of the University of Indiana in Bloomington, Indiana. The race was founded in 1951 by Howdy Wilcox Jr., Executive Director of the Indiana University Student Foundation, who modeled the race after the Indianapolis 500, which his father had participated in and won in 1919. Racers compete in teams of four, racing relay-style for 200 laps (50 miles) along a quarter-mile (440 yards) cinder track. Thirty-three teams are selected in qualifications trials to compete in the main race. Money raised by the event goes towards a scholarship fund for working IU students."

This race was the inspiration for the Oscar winning movie "Breaking Away" (1979) starring Dennis Christopher and Dennis Quaid.

"Breaking Away" is a movie about four working class friends from a college town who are better know as "The Cutters" a term for the stone quarry workers from town who never got to go to college, and how cycling becomes their unexpected ticket into bigger and better things.

Special rules for the Little 500 race include:
All riders must use the official Little 500 bike that is provided to them for that year. There can be no toe clips or grips, kick stands, water bottles, air pumps, untaped or unplugged handlebars, or any other add-on accessories.

I purchased this bike and when I did it had all the official race decals, but they were not in great shape so I peeled them off and underneath was a relatively flawless frame set! There are some nicks in the paint, but no dents, dings, or rust!

I immediately had a new front wheel built (Sun CR18 36 spoke with as Suzue Sealed-Tech Track Hub) and put on a new IRC Road Winner Dura II 27 1/4" Kevlar belted tire. The rear wheel is a Alex X-Rim "404" with an IRC non-Kevlar belted Road Winner Dura II tire. The seat was replaced with a Selle San Marco Squadra HDP with Titanium rails. I installed a new 3T bar with Dia-Compe black dummy hoods and an aero bar. (The aero bar is not included in this auction) I peeled the decals off a new SALSA gloss black quill stem and installed it. I put Odyssey Black Widow BMX platform pedals on the Cromoly crank arms (170mm). The Black Widows have the smoothest bearings I have ever spun! The fork is steel and AERO shaped.

The 531 BUTTED REYNOLDS tubing has meticulous welds and beautiful paint, with deep rose red paint fading into gloss black. The frame measures 22"/55.88mm center of the BB to center of the top tube. The top tube measures identical c-c. The stand over is 31.75"

The bike is nothing short of a "BLAST" to ride! Although it's not the lightest bike, it moves very well and the coaster brake allows you to concentrate on pedaling and hand position. The Aero Bars worked great for me and I could really lock in. I only put about 300 miles on it.

Whether you're a competitive cyclist or a novice, this bike will quickly win you over & become your favorite ride. It's a very special bike!

1995 Colnago Titanio - $650 (Durango)

Reply to: nwwqn-3210372968@sale.craigslist.org

A collectors item with Classic Colnago paint job. Titanium frame with steel fork. Campy components with Record carbon fiber brake levers and Racing Triple crankset. Alpha carbon fiber bars and Ritchy stem. This bike was at the top of the Colnago line in 1995. Handles like a dream. It is a wonderful bike for long distance rides as the titanium frame is great in adsorbing road shock. Pedals not included.

Pinarello Treviso (with Shimano 600) for local pickup only in Birmingham, AL. $499, BIN. Would make a pretty sweet rider. If it were in Chicago, I'd be tempted.

Steel Frame is 21 inches or 53cm in good shape and paint has some nicks but good condition. No rust on the bike or frame. Has weinman 520 brakes, sachs/Huret derailleur and dia compe levers. Can be built as a fixed gear bike or as a 5 speed with originalderailleur. Just missing seatpost, wheels, and pedals. I have a bontrager seat shown in the photos I can give you if you want it.
