[h=2]1989 Trek 1400 - Original 105 Group - 56cm - $285 (Jenkintown)[/h]

Date: 2013-01-13, 10:30PM EST
Reply to this post Reply to: wrdqs-3538876382@sale.craigslist.org[SUP][?][/SUP]

For sale is one of my 3 vintage Trek aluminum road bikes. It's a 1989 Trek 1400 56cm good for someone just under 6'-0". I acquired this some weeks ago, and after investing some time and money, I finally got her out for a few rides, and compared to my 58cm 1200 and 60cm 1420, realized it's just a little too tight for me so I'm reluctantly selling it.

The bike is in great original condition from top to bottom. It has new tubes, new tape, new water bottle holder, new Welgo cage peddles, new (used) saddle pack, and a new (used) Selle Italia color coordinated seat (I have the original Vetta saddle that's pretty beat up but it's included with the bike). The combination with the white frame and bright red logos with the stuff I added really looks sharp (IMO). I'm certainly not making any money at this price so hopefully it finds a good home.

The white frame doesn't hide it's imperfections very well, and there are some smudges and paint chips here and there, but even from a few steps away, the paint quality and red logos really shine and look great. The original 105 group is fully in tact, and is basically in perfect condition as you can see in the pictures. Everything works as it should. The tires are older Continental Ultra's but are in very good shape, and as mentioned above, the tubes are brand new.

Any questions, or any other pictures you would need, please let me know. Local cash sale only. Happy to meet you to save some drive time. Please be specific in your emails.

Thanks for looking.

That is a great deal for the SPort SX, if it was a bit closer I would buy it as a donor to build up my other '87.

Does anyone live in Houston? Or rather West Houston? I need this like a hole in my head esp, since I just finished the rover build but it is sort of a nostalgia thing.

https://houston.craigslist.org/bik/3417531103.html

The price isn't bad for a ful ChroMO F/F and what is basically a Deore group.

looks like it's all "Mountain LX" which i believe is one step down from Deore and went on to be called Exage? Those RM-20 rims were the top Araya rims in the late 80s. I wonder what hubs they are laced to (since the seller says the rim are NOS)

cool purple splatter... would probably be a step up framewise from the rover

It was rebranded the next year as Deore LX, regular Deore became Deore DX. It was actually a very nice machine, an old roommate of mine had one back in our paycheck to not quite paycheck days so she got jammed up and had to sell. I wanted to buy it from her but I wasn't much beeter of myself.

Anyway they are giving decent bikes away in Houston. This is a day or two old but a Trek 660/ 531/ SupreBee for $150. Looks like a 56 maybe?

Yah think!!!
There was a specialized S-Works stumpy with Kooka cranks, thomson seatpost and kore stem with chris king kead set and hubs guy was asking $175 and relisted it three times. I was calling friends in Texas, my brother, everyone I knew and but they were all too far away. What a deal that would have been perfect Kooka purple, pink, blue cranks I've been wanting. Seller wouldnt ship even after I offered $100 extra for his troubles, to take to a bike shop and ship. Best deal I never had. It was that nice stumpy combo frame with lugs and carbon.

**** Also, when replying to this ad, Please, PLEASE include a name and make some effort to assure me that you are in fact a real human and not a spamming junk bot. I'm sorry that I have to ask, but there's just too many junk messages trying to get my e-attention. Let me put it this way: if I'm not sure you're a real person who's actually interested, I probably won't reply. So if you send or have sent me a laconic email that I mistake or have mistaken for spam, I apologize; send another message. ****

This 1974 Schwinn Paramount (identified as such by the serial number, which is stamped on the left (non-drive-side) dropout) has been re-painted green and re-badged with a Raleigh decal. This is still one hell of a bike. If it WERE a Raleigh, with these components, it would have to be a Professional, which has the serial number stamped on the bottom bracket, not the left dropout. The SN stamped on this bike matches the Paramount numbering scheme, and thus allowed me to ID it and its year of manufacture.
The bike, despite its confusing yet very professionally-done repaint, is in excellent condition. If it was used, it was lightly and not for long.
Some parts, especially the steel ones, show some surface rust and scratches, but these are all cosmetic. The headset, bottom bracket, and hub bearings still spin very smoothly (That's Campagnolo for ya)
The tires, however, are deflated, and have come un-glued from the rims. the rear tire is also considerably worn out. These would need to be replaced.

Gone Already! I called, but too late. Someone beat me to it.
Very interesting history here. Red Bush frames were gorgeous road bikes with minimalist lugs built by Ross Shafer in the late seventies before he started Salsa Cycles.
