Woah, 5 speed Raleigh Tourist, that is awesome! I'd be all over that if I was still living out in PA. Absolute steal of a price too, whoever is interested shouldn't even haggle, just go get it.

Do I see two cables? Is this more than a 3spd?

I do I do see two cables? What do we have here?

BG, that size should work well for you. The hub is a SA S5. I don't think I've ever seen one on a rod brake roadster... I'd be interested, but not at that price. Also, I'm guessing it's from the 70's.

That is a good price? HHHHMMmmm I need another bike like a hole in my head, but I don't have a 3spd, always having a rod brake bike would be cool, that 5spd is just so esoteric.... It does need a Dyno hub though.

The hub? I thought rod brakes went out with button shoes in the late '60s?

There are retrofits available for the left linkage from BikeSmith Design and they are quite reasonable price wise. It's essentially a ShimaNO 3-speed shifter linkage that's been tapped out to fit the SA axle. I have heard it works better than the original.

You are correct that the thing on the chainstay is a brake.

I don't think the price is great, but I suppose you could say it's OK. Those roadsters are heavy as all get out, but ride very nicely. I wouldn't pay 200 for it, but that's just me. Raleigh made rod-brake roadsters for a long time. It seems I read somewhere they made them into the 80's but can't remember for sure.

Custom paint. Frame and steerer look a little modern to have DT shifters. Might be custom paint on any old frame. Its at a pawn shop, so who knows the backstory.

DL1/Tourists generally run from $300-700 on ebay, and that's with the standard 3 speed. $200 for that one is a steal. Also, Raleigh made these through the beginning of the 1980s.

It is probably a little better price than I initially stated. I guess if I needed another bike and it was clean with the 5-speed hub I might actually feel different about this.

I believe the frame is a Nevada City. If that is the case it is grossly overpriced. The complete bike only cost $875 new. I purchased a 2001 Lemond Zurich in near perfect condition this past summer for significantly less than the $450 and that bike cost $2100 new. If this bike sells for $450 I am going to strip mine down and sell it for double that amount.

I like steel & all, but I'd never imagined a Lemond frame being that pricey.

Living Hard is new line Lance announced on Oprah. It sort of looks more like an older Cannondale with a new fork. Did Trek really make alloy that fat?

It almost looks like some kind of homemade friction device for a trainer. You know likw old stationary bikes had thos felt pads the rubbed the rim for resistance.
