OK, this bike has to be stolen (or seller is an idiot or both).

Note: saddle positioning, Bell mounted-U-Lock.

Popped up on Corvallis Craigslist with $200 in the ( ) on the posting, then in the ad he said he wanted $500 for it. Now he's "motivated". Hmm.

I know nothing about these bikes - if anyone else does I'd be curious. Doesn't look like a 61cm bike either, which is good (no temptation).

The original 1980 Colnago Mexico road frame 60 CM, hand-crimped top and down tubes, beautiful lug work, pearl white w/black and yellow decals, chrome fork, extremely rare. In excellent condition, shows very little wear. Bike was bought in Italy, not an import frame. Sold with or without Shimano Dura-ace components. ($2000 w/components)

I was reading about this bike in the appraisal thread. the seller's roommate is in jail and 'left' to him to dispose of LOL

Coincidentally, last night on Chicago CL a Basso with red-white-blue paint scheme was listed at $100. No pic, only other description was that it was 48cm and ridden little. No reply to the email I (instantly) sent, and further emails bounce back. That was an awfully cheap price for a seller who knew enough to list the size. I am a cheapskate and would love to find one of those super deals, but would hate for it to be a stolen bike.

Nice 60cm Gitane SuperCorsa. Could be a team bike or replica, with a number hanger. This is from the time Fignon et al were racing TDF on Gitane's.

Speeds changed by rotating the right handle. Brakes are fine, handles nicely. has rear carrier and kickstand. Could use new tires because they are over 10 years old.

Here's a bike for the "serious" collector, a 23.-1/2" Carlton-badged International with curly lugs and black-red-gold paint scheme -- looks to be well-preserved. In Dutchess county NY, was originally on CL, but seller realized quickly that it was worth more than $300, so it's on eBay now. I think that the person who gets this will be lucky, and I hope that they enjoy it, and keep it well-preserved! Check out the early-vintage "fade" on the seat tube in the eBay pics!

I emailed the seller regarding that bike. He emailed me back days later saying that he got so many emails that he realized it was worth more money and would put it on ebay.

He sent out an email to all the responders saying that "in fairness" to everyone he would post it on ebay for everyone to have a chance.

I told him that was in very poor form.

It would be better to just pull the craigslist ad and put it on ebay without trying to "round up" all of the craigslist interest. I find this tactic very distastful, and I told him so. I don't like craigslist sellers trying to turn me into a bidder!

I won't be participating in the auction

I see no problem with it. If he would have sold it at that price it just would have went back on CL with a higher price or been put on Ebay by the new owner. Its a smart move.

I see Ivandarken's point. If he wanted more, he should have researched it. An advertised price should be a deal, unless it was truly a mistake/typo. If I were to post a price on something at a garage sale for $50, I wouldn't raise that price when somebody said they would buy it. I don't respect people that do that type of thing...even if I still miss out on a deal.

Additionally, CL is not a forum to gather interested bidders for an Ebay auction by advertising a cheap price.

The bike was seriously underpriced on CraigsList. Clearly, the sellers did not have any idea of its value when they put it up. Letting the people who had responded on CL know that it was being auctioned is not underhanded, I think, just gives them a chance to participate, if they care to. It makes me uncomfortable when people take advantage of others' ignorance to get a deal, and in terms of getting a valuable bicycle into the hands of someone who will preserve it, I think that an eBay sale will help guarantee that. Though it might end up with the bike going to Japan!

Holy crap. I wasn't sure those actually existed. I've only ever seen the drawn pic of them in "The Dancing Chain".

The CL ad is still active.........it does state best offer over $400. It was listed a couple weeks ago with just a "make offer" approach. It is understandable that he'd like to get a fair price for it........but he should at least be up front about his intentions in the CL ad.
