Nice looking bike. Is that a rare Shimano Sante group mounted on that bike?

looks like a bargain on the Colnago, yes?

Miele is an Italian builder, though, right? Close...

Suddenly this weekend there was a glut of interesting tandems on my local online classifieds. I don't need one, but I find them interesting. And this one is incredible, if you are looking for something very particular and very cool. If you're into tandems search that word in the roadbikes section and you'll see some more.

https://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218...ndale&ad_cid=7

$800

Custom Cannondale Road Tandem

It is time for my tandem to find a new home.

This was an uncompromising, no-expenses, top of the line tandem build, that I invested close to $4000 in.

Let's start with the frame- that's what caught your eye. I ordered this frame directly from Cannondale in raw, unpainted aluminum. I had it shipped to Clark Kent cycles, where the custom pink polka-dot paintwork was applied. The polka dots were black, but the whole bike got a purple tinted clear coat (very subtle metallic) which subdued the neon pink a bit, and gave the polka-dots a bit of a purple hue. To say this is an eye-catching attention getter is a bit of an understatement.

Cannondale called this frame a 21"/19". I am 5'9, my wife is 5'7 and it fit us perfectly. It is set up to put me in a fairly aggressive position, giving the stoker a good view.

The cranks are very unique Cook Bros racing- polished tandem specific cranks set up with 42t transfer rings. Drive rings are a triple- the bike currently set up for the hills.

There are 3 brakes on the bikes. Originally, I built it with Self Energizing cantilevers, but it has since been upgraded to Avid Single digit V-brakes. The brake levers are Dia-Comp - cantilever/V-brake specific; so no need for adapters etc. There is also a drum brake on the left side. This is actuated with a Suntour command shifter. It works great as a "drag" brake / heat sink. Rather than dump all that energy into the rims, you actuate the brake at the top of a hill, set the tension, and just let it drag - all the way down; using the cantilevers for quick pulses of brake power when needed. In a hilly area like Utah, I would definitely recommend this setup.

There are 3 sets of handlebars. The Captain has 42cm Specialized bars, which are clones of the old Scott Drop-ins. These are connected with a Salsa stem- still wearing the cantilever pulley. The stoker has 2 sets of bars- pictured on the bike are some Brahma bars which put the stoker in a more upright position. Also included is a setup with standard road bars, a breakaway bar, and Dia Comp (dummy) brake hoods. The stoker accepts any 1" quill stem, so it's trivial to switch out different stoker bars.

Forks have been upgraded to a lighter stiffer cyclocross fork.

Both hubs are Phil Wood, 48 spoke, 5X, laced to Mavic rims.

There is a USE shock absorbing (elastomer based) seat post for the stoker. It is not nearly as cush as modern suspension posts; but it is light, and takes the sting out of little unseen bumps.

Flite Titanium saddle up front, a Fisher saddle on the back.

Deore XT derailleurs front and rear, Shimano shifters.

4 Specialized water bottle cages, plus a 5th on the underside of the downtube which fully loops the bottle (more secure).

Ringle rear seat post quick release. American Classic front post.

It really is an awesome tandem. If we were riding tandems now, it would be a keeper. But, we're not- so I'd rather see this find a home where it will be back on the road.

Bike is pictured with 2 sets of Crank Bros Egg-Beater pedals. They can be included for an extra $80 ($40/pr).

Tires are Avocet, Kevlar belted tires, 700X32c, slicks. Really great tires. Show good tread, no cracking... but before I took this bike up over 60mph in the hills (yes, I've gone that fast on it), I'd probably renew the tires.

I spied that too, but my bike budget is a little thin at the moment. Definitely drop a line if you'll be in Baltimore and want to do any riding. Oh, and here's the link: https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...711465014.html

Interesting frame, in an odd place:

https://spokane.craigslist.org/bik/3715935586.html

[h=2]Vintage Italian Frame and Fork 57 cm - $225 (Clarkston WA)[/h]

Late 70's or early 80's Guerciotti (Gwere-coat-e) frame and fork ONLY. Columbus SL steel tubing, Campagnolo dropouts, fully lugged and beautiful pantos. It sports a very ugly original paint and decal job. Frame and fork are straight and dent free, chrome is good, justs need a bit of resto to be awesome once again. New decal sets are available on Ebay. I have had this built as a fixie, then a 1 x10 and lastly with a full 2008 Campy 10spd Chorus groupset and a carbon compact crankset. It climbs and decends very nicely.. It works perfect with modern components. Italian threading. All threads good ,derailleur hanger adjusted. I just took this out of service last week and moved the components to another vintage Italian bike. I love Italian bikes!!! 225.00 firm. These are getting hard to find in this area. size is 57 x 57 square. I will install a square taper BB if you wish at no charge, and can assist in a future build if necessary. I have a bike box and am willing to ship at cost. Last photo was taken while living its life as a fixie. Please email or call Tim 509 751 189 one

Now that looks like a good deal. Hard to find brifter bikes under $200. I'd be interested to know what the components really are.

This might be one of those carbon tubes joined by steel lugs, apparently made in Taiwan by Giant.
