Story of my life.

Seems like we are always in the middle of another "important" purchase here as well.

Again, they are nice riders that would easily take some big name Italian bicycles of the day to the cleaners.

Thought about seeing if I could negotiate the guy down.
You guys seem to universally think that this is a great bike for the price? What makes it special? A quick google search does not indicate that this is a great purchase.

Reynolds 531(main triangle)...lug work...components...TREK...when bikes in the US were built in the US with pride and quality! Oh did I forget to mention in incredible shape and worth every penny and maybe more.

Not sure where you checked but your checking was in not good. The 640 was a sport bike, meaning the geometry was in between a touring bike and a racing bike, thus the ride would be in between those two. The frame was Reynolds 531c double butted, the c stood for competition, it was Reynolds best quality racing frame, and the fork was made of the same manganese alloy as the frame which made it a top notch fork. The driveline was Campy Gran Sport and was considered to be in the class of their good models.

This was a very good bike that was silver brazed by hand in America. If you can't see that then thats ok, plenty people know what that bike is about and the bike will be sold fast. Is $450 a bit high? depending on condition and if it has all the original components, probably not but I'm sure he would consider $400. I've seen Trek 400's go for that price, if that was a 400 at that price then I would agree with you, it's not worth $450.

[h=2]Custom Italian 10-speed - $395 (Jamaica Plain)[/h]
1970's high quality Mirella Custom Italian 10-speed. Has high quality components including CampiRecord derailler and seat post, silver/gold finish. 22 1/2" double butted columbus tubing frame. high grade details, Light weight. Very little use as it has been too big for me so in very good condition and owned for many years stored inside. Valued by local bike shop at $600. Excellent fast road bike. Needs tires. Can be seen at Ferris Wheels Bike Shop in JP (ask for Mark).

Now that bike is worth $395, but it's not some some cheap Trek 330.

I think that is a 710, if I'm correct someone better snag it fast, of course it is for shorter riders so it will be difficult to sell.

Not around here!

A lot of the bikes on CL locally look like they blasted it with the garden hose and filled the tires.

....and put a $300 sticker on it.
