Interesting way to stand a bike up and maybe a good sign of balance but what's with the cigarette butt, EH?

What do you feed a bike to fatten it and will it lose it's self-esteem if it knows you consider it as such?

I think this is over priced by about $500 but it is a good looking Vitus. Nice classic mix w/ Suntour drive and Modolo brakes.

https://harrisburg.craigslist.org/bik/4162071509.html $1000

This looks like an oldie but goodie:

[h=2]Cannondale T700 (Liberty Lake or Valley)[/h]

This is a 19", mid-90s touring bike. The frame is in great shape, very few scratches or dings. Components are Shimano (rear derailleur is stx model). Saddle is in good shape, rims are straight, tires have tread. Needs pedals and probably chain. Definitely needs to be cleaned and tuned. One owner. Always stored inside. If you love old Cdales, this is a great buy. Clean her up this winter and ride in the spring. $250 obo

This thing is pretty cool. Never seen a lugged aluminum frame before. Should I jump on this? What's a good price do you think?

[h=2]Early 80's Alan Record Full Campagnolo Super Record, Cinelli, Tubulars - $750 (Montrose)[/h] craigslist - Map data OpenStreetMap

Early 80's Alan Record

Alan was the first company to make aluminum and carbon fiber bicycle frames.
Best I can tell this is from the early 80's
52cm top tube, 50cm seat tube
Frame is in great condition--it's all aluminum so no corrosion to worry about. Decals are missing. All that's left are some clear decals on the frame a couple of silver bands on the seatpost. No cracks or dings.
Full Campagnolo Super record groupset. The only bits not period are the chain (Sram) and the hoods (not made by campy but some kind of reproduction). Some of the components could use some polishing, but look like they would clean up easily. Everything shifts and breaks wonderfully.
Lacking some period appropriate pedals, too.
Wheels are campy hubs, Mavic 330 tubular rims w/Continental Sprint tubular tires (hold air just fine, I currently commute on this bike and only add air maybe every 3-5 days).
52/46 Crankset
13-25 6-speed cassette
Cinelli stem (90mm)
Cinelli bars (38cm)
Campy Seatpost
Selle San Marco saddle
Cables and housing are brand new.
Weighs about 19.5 lbs

Bike will come with 6 spare tubular tires (these are usually worth about $30-50 apiece).
Great project for a retro-grouch, or if you want a really fast and beautifully crafted roadie it's ready for weekend warring. The ride is supple yet sporty--not unlike a lugged steel frame.

Call or text with any questions,

Tucker

This is really a case where the frame hurts the parts value...Alans just aren't that desirable to most. I wouldn't go over $450 - and that's because of the gruppo. It's possible he'd get that on eBay, but he's not using eBay, he says he put in no effort to clean and his photos suck. That would sit on my CL - and the buyer would be after it as a parts bike.

I don't think his corrosion comment is accurate either.

That Allan is very nice bike, not sure what happened to the decals that were on the bike's downtube but it is a nice bike. Depending on overall condition it's worth more than $450, probably closer to $850! The components alone are worth around $500 maybe more, and frame around $400; I had that groupset (not sure what year that particular groupset is but I had the same set) and it shifted the best of any groupset on the market except for top 3 or 4 of Suntour derailleurs. Anyway, this is very vintage bike, depending on the year there were issues with all early aluminum tubes bonded to aluminium lugs of the bonding agent letting go, but it wasn't a common occurrence. Also depending on your weight it won't last long with someone over 180 pounds riding it. It had a very comfortable ride compared to modern large tube aluminum bikes.

By the way, unlike the ad says aluminum does corrode, steel doesn't corrode it rusts, aluminum doesn't rust it corrodes, titanium does neither. so make sure you check on the lug to tube areas (the joints) to make sure you don't see anything looking like corrosion, and check for hairline cracks in the same areas including on the lugs themselves, test ride it to make sure you don't hear the frame making sort of a clicking noise has you hammer on it. There is a place in Canada that rebonds these types of frames, and they use a far better bonding agent that won't ever let go again, and they even will replace a broken tube and or lug; see: https://www.guywires.com/vitusmain.htm If you decide to get this bike keep this website for future reference, because should something happen to the bonds it's worth while paying the money and getting it fixed.

Depending on the asking price and condition I would start negotiating at 25% off the asking price and see where it goes. If you test ride the bike and just really love it than price doesn't mean anything, but don't get ripped off either. Problem is though you live in the LA area and prices tend to be inflated there.

These were actually nicer due to engravings on the frame then the Vitus's and other similar bikes that came out back then.

This isn't an evaluation format, but I strongly disagree with the above post.

First - because the parts are worth XXX on eBay doesn't mean that the complete bike is worth xxx on CL.

Second - it is extremely difficult to sell any bike on CL for over $500...and when they do sell, they have to be VERY under priced.

Third - this will be hard to sell on CL, in my experience these frames have a soft market and are not especially well regarded. CL is not the best way to reach that very limited market. He's got the name wrong and the bike doesn't have decals.

Fourth - parts value of dirty, uncleaned parts is not high on eBay. Expect 50% standard pricing, or less. CONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION.

Fifth - that bike is most likely going to be sold as a donor bike and the frame brings down its value. People buying a donor want a good bit of meat on the bone to justify going through the effort of dis-assembly and parts cleaning.

Offering 25% off of that bike's asking price is, in my opinion, seriously over paying. I think that bike would sit for months at $500 in my market.

On eBay the frames are selling for an average of $250 - with decals. Deduct fees and you have to guaranty the frame with risk of buyer dispute.
