It's probably a Reynolds 531 frame with 3 main tubes similar to a Super Course. Some people like their 531 fix. Other than that, it's a reasonably priced beater.

Looks like a 1981 Grand SE: https://www.classicfuji.com/GrandSE&G..._1981_Page.htm
One step up from the bottom: https://www.classicfuji.com/1981_24_S...ions2_Page.htm

I used to have a 1979 Sports 10, which was the bottom of the line. It's a fine enough bike for tooling around, but it's nothing super special. If you're looking for an entry level bike, it's worth considering.

If that's local to you, it fits, and it needs next to zero work, $145 might be an OK price. I'd try to talk the seller down to $100, though.

Looking to buy a good bike for transport and touring, smooth ride is the key. I cam across this Miyata 110, listed at $250. First time serious buyer so I wanted a seasoned opinion.

Details:

New parts:
Continental Ultra Sport tires and new tubes
Shimano 7 speed freewheel
Chain
Bottle cage
Clarks pre-stretched brake cables
Shimano Ultegra R600 brake levers
Shimano 105 rear derailleur

I apologize in advance if this was the wrong place to post this

Agreed.

Yard sale fodder or campus bike.

I would rather walk than ride bikes like that.

Long chainstays, 531, no turkey levers, downtube shifters as opposed to stem shifters, q/r wheels, looks like alloy rims... Not exactly 'Junk', and probably worth the asking price.

for 1500 bucks you think they would put better than 12 dollar tires on it.

1969 Brand New Raleigh Twenty - What???

I bought my rsw from this lady last year, she used to be a big Raleigh collector and started cleaning out her stuff. I've seen this bike in person and it is really nice. It has never touched the floor she told me. I'm shocked she is selling it because it is something she treasured. I think it had the tools in the bag when she showed it to me.

That Miyata is more like a 60cm if you read the description of how he measured it. They came in 50, 54, 57, 60 and 63cm sizes.

This pic from the catalog shows what looks like a 57cm:

^ The pic you showed is 1984 or later. The listing is for a 1983 or earlier. The difference is in the number of water bottle braze-ons and low rider mounts. Earlier models only have 1 pair and no low-rider mounts. The later models have 3 pairs and a set of low rider mounts up front.

OK, but the earlier ones still came in 19-1/2, 21, 23, and 25. My Fuji is a 23" and my Univega is a 58cm The length of the headtube in the advertized bike looks taller than either of mine.

Yep ... not arguing about size. It's only if someone was totally taken with the 1000, then s/he should know what to look for in terms of later versus earlier. The earlier ones don't command the premium as the later ones do because they lack some of the features. That is all.

Agreed that the earlier ones do not have quite the features...but...they still are great riding bikes...and that one, for 279, is a steal, no matter which year...or, frankly, what size (of course, it should fit the buyer!)...I have a 1981 (and it only has one bottle boss)...but I love the ride!
