This was my triathlon trainer in the 80s. Sadly neglected now in the barn. Rust starting on frame and some components. Needs deep cleaning and tuning, and probably a chain from sitting. All English thread Campy Record and Nuovo Record. Mavic rims. Heavy road tires. Quality Performance frame. Brooks seat. The value is there if you know your stuff. No tire kickers. No low ballers. This is an almost unridden 1977 Schwinn. It was completely disassembly and lubed to be ready for trouble free use. This Schwinn "Super lite bicycle" is outfitted it with some of the best components available at the time. The derailleurs are Shimano's second from the top 600 series. The shifters have been upgraded to Suntour Barcons, an outstanding bar end shifter, the brakes are DiaComp and the crank branded Schwinn. It is a 12 speed bike with very wide gearing to make hills manageable. This is stunning chrome Schwinn and you will never see another in this condition and certainly not in this price range.

Cilo was a world class bicycle made in Switzerland where high quality is the minimum standard. Cilo raced against all of the top Italian bike makers in the world's biggest bike races and has the world champion rings on the frame. The frame is made with the butted Reynolds 531 tubing that people have in mind when they say no other bikes ride like steel. It is all of the lightness, compliance and snappy nature you expect of a bike made of Reynolds 531 or Columbus SL tubing. All components are the top of the line Shimano Dura Ace including the headset, the hubs derailleurs, shifters, brakes and even pedals. The handlebars and stem are Italian 3T; equivalent to Cinelli. The bike is purple with white accents in the cutout lugs and bar tape and Turbo saddle. The seat tube measures 56cm center to center as does the top tube. The fork is chrome and original to the bike with the Cilo labels. The bike is nearly immaculate and never dumped or mistreated.

Cilo used both Columbus and Reynolds tubing for their frames depending more on the year than the model. This was obviously the high end of the line to have gotten all Dura Ace components when new.

It's impossible to evaluate a vintage bike without a series of good, in-focus photos. The size, parts, frame, and condition are everything. You will want good photos from both sides showing the whole bike, followed by a close up of the fork crown, seat cluster, seat and post, rear dropouts, front fork ends, brakes, and most importantly, the drivetrain. The drivetrain includes the cranks (both of them for a tandem) two chains, the derailleurs that shift the chain on the cogs, and a close up of the hub --- all taken from the drive side, which is normally the right as you ride the bicycle. For the captain (front position), you will also want photos from the left.

I hope someone here who appreciates those 70's era bikes, and a rare one at that, will get this fast...in fact I would be getting in my Camaro Z28 and smoking it's tires all the way there if I lived in that area!!! Some of these according to Sheldon Brown were low end pieces of junk, but they did make one example that wasn't, still it would be worth the tire rubber to check to make sure it was the good one. By the way, the good ones were made in Belgium and the low end jobs were made in Portugal and there use to be stickers applied telling where it was made, but I think the component level and weight of the bike would indicate what quality it is.

As cheap as the center pull brakes look don't let those fool anyone here because Shimano did make Dura Ace center pull brakes that did see the racing circuit.

Stamped rear dropouts in the 70s = Super Course or lower quality. That bike is priced ambitiously for the way it is set up.
