I like it, always a bit concerned with a kickstand fitted. I like the color too. Of course this bike will have 27" wheels... oh well, it is in Chicago and I am in SoCal.

Its raining in Chicago, I have a exterior painting job on hold. I'd take a trip to go look at it.

I'll offer him $800 and ship it to you. I'll even take the kickstand off for you.

I can't tell if what I'm seeing is correct but there appears to be some sort of major rust damage shown on the third photo of the twin boom part of the frame at the seat tube and slightly behind it. It almost appears is if the joint at the seat tube has failed and then right behind it a crack which also appears at the crack to be a very slight bend in that tube right at the crack. Maybe someone else with a better monitor can examine that closer and see what they think.

would anyone with tandem experience venture a guess at that frame size? ... on the smaller side given the seemingly short head tube?

If I am correct that '71 International has had rear rack mounts added so at the very least so I can see one reason for a paint job.

Schwinn Varsity Bicycle (Made in USA) Vintage!!! - $90 (Blasdell/Hamburg, NY)

I think this has been listed awhile with no price, but just the note: "If you want to ride a fast, smooth-riding piece of American bicycling history, contact me and you can try it out and we will work out a suitable price. I am the original owner." I guess no takers, so now it has the $90 price, which might be a steal if you're looking for what appears to be a pretty good one: https://buffalo.craigslist.org/bik/4589889913.html

What you may be seeing is what's left of a center-pull hanger; maybe only larger frames had it. I can't see as neither browser will load any CL pages.

Damn that is a nice bike but the standover makes it one for the serious 6'2 plus rider so make take a while to sell.

Eddy Merckx (like Colnago) Strada Road Bicycle, 58cm - $700 (Crown Heights)

https://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/bik/4630397201.html

Not sure why this guy thinks Reynolds is "MUCH much" rarer than Columbus, but this seems like a pretty decent deal for a Merckx with DA.

Link on the Merck reference doesn't work for me, but there were many fewer Merckx frames made with Reynolds 753 than with Columbus tubing.

At one point, I believe that each US dealer was allocated only one per year.

[h=2]Road/touring Schwinn in great condition for 5'3" to 5'6" rider. - $150[/h]

craigslist - Map data OpenStreetMap

(google map) (yahoo map)

Road/touring Schwinn in great condition for 5'3" to 5'6" rider.

I am an experienced bike mechanic and enjoy bike tinkering. A friend of mine needed an affordable bike, so I put this one together for her. As it turns out, the frame is a little too large for her size --she's 5'1", and fairly short legs. That's why I am selling it. It has a 48 cm frame, and the stand over height is about 30". I would say it's best suited for a rider in the 5'3" to 5'6" range.

It will make a great commuting, or multi-day touring bike. Years ago, I rode comfortably from Minneapolis to Boston on a very similar model.

The core of it is a Schwinn road bike from the mid 80's. It's well equipped with mostly Shimano components, an 18 speed drivetrain (3*6) and some powerful cantilever brakes.

I put some newer quality wheels and tires, seat, brake levers, handlebar tape, and gave it a good tune up. There are no loose axles, skipping gears, or rubbing brakes on it. The paint on the frame shows some wear, but it has no rust, and the frame itself has no dents or cracks and is perfectly safe and sound.

I am asking $150 firm for it. One would have to spend at least $600 in order to get a new bike of comparable quality in a bike shop. For an additional $20, I can mount a sturdy aluminum rear rack. If interested, please email me, and I'll get back to you shortly.

I picked up one of these earlier this summer from Goodwill for $20. I am not real impressed with the workmanship. I stripped off the 105 Golden Arrow components, bars, saddle and other parts and built it up as a commuter for my wife with parts bin components.
