1989 Trek 520 Touring, 24" - $600 (Cambridge)

Date: 2010-09-07, 3:58PM EDT
Reply to: sale-ew28d-1941496255@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

Up for sale is a 1989 trek 520 touring bike. Frame size is 24". Fully lugged frame construction, with beautifiul lugs. Fastback style seat cluster. Investment cast lugs with "trek" stamped into every lug. Mid-fork braze-ons for a low-rider front rack. Frame is made out of true temper steel tubing, made in the usa. 24" frame. 34.5" standover height.

Check out the specs and geometry at: https://vintage-trek.com/TrekBrochure1989.htm

Bicycle is in exceedingly fantastic condition- there are no dents or scratches on the frame, and the frame is largely free of any chips and scratches.

Full deore touring component group- deore rear derailleur, front derailleur, cranks, high profile cantilever brakes. Strong wheels suitable for touring or comutting on rough streets. Shifters are shimano 105, indexed. Bicycle rides, shifts, and brakes fantastically.

New cables and housings all around, new bar tape. Rear rack included.

I also have a review from bicycling magazine from 1989 reviewing this bike, which I could email to you if you wanted to check it out.

I could ship the bike, if you are from out of town, but all packing/shipping costs would have to be paid by the buyer and payment would have to be made in advance via money order.

Same bike as Greg Lemond won Tour de France on. That according to Gamache's Bicycles when I bought it. I believe it originally cost me something near $1200.00-$1400.00. Used very little and is in extremely near perfect condition. First $900.00 takes it. Got many compliments on it. Super bike.

Whoops, another one: the elusive Mavic Mektronic

AL Trek 1400 w/ Wireless Shifter - $400 (Cincy/Hartwell)

Date: 2010-09-07, 7:56AM EDT
Reply to: sale-pd74b-1940494307@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

People have been looking at this bike funny ever since I built it up.

The rear derailleur is a wireless Mavic Mektronic. This means there is no cable running to it. There is a small handlebar mounted computer which has two thumb-reach buttons. The up button shifts up, the down shifts down. This doubles as a cyclocomputer (I’m not using it, but have it and it works, has directions and will be included in sale). The computer and derailleur each run on a camera battery.

There used to be brifters with more buttons on them, but one of the buttons stopped working so I removed them (cut the wire). They are included in the sale. The levers work fine, and one has a friction shifter for a front derailleur. If someone is good with electronics and could get the entire Mavic system working perfectly they could make some money as it is nearly impossible to find one anymore.

57cm. and has long stem so fits a pretty tall rider (6’).

Set up as 1x9 with TT bars and levers.

The bike shifts great, brakes well, and rides quick, but harsh.

Has very clean lines due to no der. cables and rear brake cable routed through top tube.

No pedals included.

Parts:
Trek Easton ProGram aluminum frame 57 cm.
Nashbar carbon fork, with 1” threaded steer tube.
No-name carbon nicro-adjust zero setback seat post and nashbar saddle.
Nashbar TT bar and levers.ritchey headset.
Ritchey (nitto) 1” steel stem.
Cane creek scr-5 black dual pivot brakes.
Shimano RX-100 cranks and sealed square taper BB.
Rocket ring 44 tooth chainring w/ dual BBG superlight bashguards
Sram PC chain with quicklink
Shimano rx100 12-27 casette.
Sonic matrix heat treated rims (32 spoke) with Shimano RX100 hubs
Vittoria open pave evo 700x24 tires (pretty heavy wear and a few nicks on them)

The paint is chipped and scratched pretty good here and there, but still a sturdy bike and will be for a long time.

Also will be including original cables guides, chainrings, and AL fork.

Seeing if anyone is interested locally before it goes to Ebay.

Email me with any questions.

Price is $400.

Cash only/Local only

Well, you have to be a paying member to post bikes for sale. When they are posted, they go here.

Hopefully, you don't get a bad impression of the C&Vers. You are obviously new here, but please abide by the rules. Good luck with your sale.

Seems to me to be a reeeeeaaaaally good deal on an '88 Prelude. And the seller seems pretty genuine, which is a nice thing to see. I'm trying to decide if I should bother, since it's probably going to be a 3-hour drive... but it looks really nice...

Schwinn Vintage USA 54cm Prelude Roadbike - $120 (Palm Bay)

I just put on 2 Vredestein Fiammante tires and puncture-resistant tubes which were over $75 alone. Less then 100 miles on the tires. Includes aero bar & under-seat bag.

This bike is fully functional, straight rims, good brakes, smooth shifting. I was riding this up until about 2 weeks ago as my commuter bike, never had a problem. Has conventional pedals so no cleats or special shoes needed. Perfect as a inexpensive starter, a spare, or to see how the spouse or teen likes roadbiking without making a huge investment.

I'm 5'8" and it seemed to be about the right fit for me. I see vintage roadbikes on EBAY all the time for $300 plus and you won't hurt my feelings if you're buying this to clean up and resell. I don't know a thing about the vintage bike market - I just want to ride em not deal em!

I was also quite sure of this. Looks more like a 58 to me, which is my size. I asked if he has the original pedals and saddle and he said he doesn't, so that's a bummer. Would have been cool to get the matching San Marco saddle. Still not sure if it's worth the ride.

Thanks for that - bagged the Campy FD with the 28.6 clamp. Those are hard to come by for triples, and hopefully it'll work with 10 speed. If so it'll make a nice cheap upgrade for the Palo Alto, which is sporting a 32.0mm clamp Veloce FD the is shimmed.

I'm going to go ahead and guess that that's more likely a pincushion effect or some other optical trickery than a bent fork. It seems like most of the "bent forks" out there don't end up being bent forks.

Not that it matters because as it turns out, an unforeseen development means I probably won't have a car to potentially pick the bike up this weekend, anyway.

Okay, seriously. I may have to just go get the Robin Hood. $10. Orting isn't that far from Seattle. I mean it is, but it's not. $10. He's had this ad on for weeks, and the price keeps dropping.

$10.

Early 1980's Univega Gran Rally. Japanese built spearpoint lugged double butted Tange Champion chromoly frame measures 22 inches center of crank to center of top tube.Forged micro adjustable dropouts .Full Shimano 600 (pre-Ultegra) component group including cold forged crank, front and rear derailleurs, down tube shifters, brakes with drilled levers, headset, and hubs.saddle pictured has been replaced with a San Marco Triathlon Gel.700 x 23 Hutchinson Kevlar reinforced tires with blue accents on Matrix anodized 32 spoke rims.Brake hoods are gone but new Serfas handlebar tape is very comfortable and is wrapped around brake lever bodies.Dark copper metallic paint with blue decals and cable housings all in good shape with a couple of scratches here and there and a couple of letters missing.I own a bunch of steel bikes including SLX De Rosa,Bianchi, and Reynolds 531 Peugeot and this rides every bit as nice as any of them.Very cool 21 pound steel bike.Delivery available for time and fuel from zip 02645.High res pictures available upon request.I answer responses that include a phone number
