early '70s falcon project (54cm) - $25 (greenwood)
https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/b...737623874.htmlearly '70s entry-level falcon frameset with awful paint includes ...
- frame (51cm seat tube, 56cm top tube, both c-c)
- fork (5.25" steerer)
- headset (cups & crown are installed)
- cottered crank with chainrings
- smooth bottom bracket
- seatpost & bolt
- ideale saddle
- head badge.
the chrome tipped fork is in good shape and would be easy to paint ... if you simply need a fork for a small frame. it's not that heavy and has threaded eyelets, which is nice.
the leather saddle can be salvaged with a little love. treat the top. remove the rust from the rails. and punch a couple holes in the skirts to lace 'em together.
its weinmann center-pulls are listed in my parts ad.
i love falcons -- i have two others -- so i didn't want to scrap this one even though it's entry-level. the head badge alone is probably worth $20 to someone restoring a vintage falcon.
cheers.
Bikes are okay, I guess.

About 1/2 hour left... bid is $40. Mostly Wal-bikes / bike-boom bikes, but I think I see at least one bull moose bar back there, and something with a Sturmey.

@DQRider, yes, it's the death fork. I don't think anyone has died, but that doesn't mean no one ever will. I believe I have version 2.0 on my Viscount, and I ride it, though not often. Maybe I'm foolish...

Highest grade of crap available, no doubt....
Hahaha, I just noticed, seller refers to it as an "antique".
Looks like a replacement unicrown fork.

Speaking of flipping, I saw an ad last night listing a bike for $95.00. One of the pictures in the ad was the thrift store picture with a $45.00 price tag on the bike.

I'm probably foolish as well. But I've never seen one of these with a lugged frame before, and I like it. Also, according to the history that @seypat posted, this would be the lightest bike in my collection. Of course, I would have to replace that fork with something in CroMoly, but that's no problem.
Now, where the heck am I gonna put it?

Come to think of it, I think I have version 3 of the fork. I'll check.

I didn't know about that press-fit bottom bracket before. That's an interesting twist; an opportunity to tackle a challenge I've never encountered before? Yeah, that puts a positive spin on it.
Besides, my hammer drawer is well stocked...

Shocked this hasn't sold for $230ish shipped on a tall Louison Bobet.
Granted, it's not like it's all 531 with Campy drivetrain but it's in better shape than I've ever found one, and I've found a few.
I don't expect it to last thru the night.

Lambert & Viscount bikes: About those Lambert / Viscount Death Forks
Nor is the fork particularly light weight, despite what that article suggests. I found the third-generation Viscount cast aluminum fork to actually weigh more than a same size Reynolds 531 steel fork with an investment cast crown.
One of the CR mailing list participants who worked for Trusty BITD stated that the aluminum fork was actually made from a cast of a steel fork.
