No, 23skidoo is right, it's the '86: https://www.vintage-trek.com/images/t...rekCatalog.pdf

Comes with pretty basic components, functional but nothing special. On the tubing, compared to which Tange tubing? Tange had an extensive range of tubing. Reynolds 531 is coveted by many, so it's got resale value. However, this frame is not full Reynolds 531, meaning the stays and forks are comprised of a different, likely heavier gauge tubing (but it's some cromoly blend, so that's good). So, this is no thoroughbred racehorse, if that's what you're looking for. In fact, it's got a more relaxed geometry than a race frame, and good clearance for fenders and wide tires. So, depends on your goals. Definitely worth the $125 though.

Yes I know it is 1986 but I couldnt find the specs for it at first, found them now. I was wondering which Tange it compares to, I am guessing a little better than Tange 1 but not as good as Prestige?

Ebay Trek auction that might go low on account of fishiness...

Repainted pink, with mountain bike decals, but the serial # indicates it's a 1982 mfr. 950 frameset. Nice!

Better for what and whom? A frame built with Tange Prestige, back in the 80s, is likely to have been a top of the line race frame. So, it's lighter than Tange 1, say, but it will also be more flexy under a heavier rider and on larger frames. A frame built with Tange Prestige will also likely have stays and forks of the same or similar materials, while the Elance 400 you're looking at likely has heavier gauge stays and forks. But I digress...Reynolds 531 has more prestige (ha!) than Tange 1, but they are similar, although I believe Tange 1 tubes alone may be lighter. However, you're looking at an entire frame here, and there are many variables that go into ride quality. People do drool over full 531 frames, but at my weight (180 lbs) and in my frame size (60cm) the ones I've ridden have been more flexy than I like. It might be different with a custom built frame with the same materials. Every frame rides differently, but for the most part, they all ride!

So what are you looking for?

I am about 160-165, 5'9ish and l am working on getting my first road bike. I am looking for something to ride somewhat strenuously for exercise and work up to long distance rides. Since I am new to it, all I know is just from what I have read but Tange 1 seems about the quality and price I want. 531 looks pretty nice as well and I am going to try to get that bike if it fits, looks like maybe 56? I will figure out how I like the specific rides once I get one!

Right now I only have an 86 Centurion Ironman frame/fork and am looking to find a cheaper frame with the right parts to swap over, but its been a tough search so far.

lsrose, if you're lucky enough to score that 86 Elance 400 I promise you will be delighted with the quality of the ride--it's one of my nicer-riding frames and I'm running 28cm Rivendell Ruffy Tuffy's on it and there's plenty of room for a 32. It comes with Shimano Z-series stuff--a Light Action RD--and index shifting, but I've upgraded mine to Suntour Cyclone on the drive train and brake calipers. You won't regret spending $125 for it.

Possibly worth it for the saddle alone, if it is in decent shape. They can go for that price on Ebay.

I stopped on the way home from the new day job and looked at this one in person this week. Smaller than a 55cm, didn't have my tape measure with me. Definitely needs some work. Was listed a week ago for $60. Search by his phone number and find a few more things he's selling. Didn't ask if he was open to offers. I passed on it due to the size being too small for me, and I didn't want to mess with cottered cranks for my next buy. I couldn't make out what model it is. Probably worth $50 to someone, will probably go for less in this local market though.

"bridgestone classic roadbike, stainless steel frame"

Bridgestone (as in the tire company) Kabuki Submariner. The main tubes on the frame are made of stainless steel. Note: you need to remove the seat to adjust the seat post up & down (not a major issue, since how ofter would you plan on doing that?). Bike is about 30 years old (+/-). Not bad.
