bar end shifters

my bar-end shifters are indexed for the rear derailer, but use friction shifting for the front. i think this is a major pain in the butt and im always having to adjust it every few mins. It also seems to slip and not stay in place. making me very mad!!!:notamused: Is there a way that i can change the front to indexed?

They are suntour by the way?

Tighten the screw that holds the shifters to the mount and your problem will be solved. Roger

they arent turning in the bars, the hex screw is tight. the handle when adjusted up slowly slides back down. these things are a pain in the ass

Tighten the screw in the side that holds the lever to the shifter body in addition to the hex screw that holds the body in the bars.

If that doesn't fix them to your liking, take them out and ship them to me.

There are a number of other members that will take them off of your hands if you really don't want them anymore, including myself.

There is a good reason why the front isn't indexed. As you move the chain up and down the rear cogs, the angle of the chain changes. You can make minor adjustments to the FD to compensate for this. The lever shouldn't move by itself. Tightening it as instructed above should fix that problem. If that doesn't work, try lubing the cable where it goes under the bottom bracket. Another possibility is your cable and housing are old and need to be replaced.
