Some old bikes I saw today

I saw about 15,000 bikes today. Here are 3 of them

I don't see any actually being ridden.

OK, that is the first time I've seen that particular braking system.

Solid tyre? and is that a wooden rim?

The first two were stopped by intrested people, the 3rd bike was being walked down the hill with a flat front. Not sure I'd want to ride it down hill even with working tyres!

I've got a kids scooter with that same type brake.

He took the photos on Mt. Ventoux - in case you hadn't guessed. Average gradient, over 8%. I'd want gearing like that myself there.

Not only his hand, the veins on his legs would impress Iggy Pop. Time to get the cholesterol checked?

sailorbenjamin 07-25-09 08:25 PM

Does that front brake work when the tire's flat?

It looks way too old to be a Herse. That baby blue color, box lining and pre-war geometry make me think it's an Alcyon. Too bad there's not a bigger picture. Whatever it is, it has a beautiful fork crown.

My stoker took the pic on the small camera. I really should have got my real camera out the bag. Hopefully I'l get a lift to eroica.it and get some good photos then.

No problem. I'm pretty sure it's an Alcyon. I just noticed the lettering on his shirt. :thumb:

So cool. Interesting way to stow the spare tubular; I've never seen that arrangement. (On the back of the black bike, that is.)
