Metric Century: I'm still alive!

I just completed 2 days of riding and it feels great! First day was with friends and we did a ~60 mile ride with some tough climbs (for me anyway!) and the next day did a ~30 mile ride supporting the "Tour De Peninsula" event.

Here's the climbs I faced on Saturday. I was confident in doing the distance, but the climbs had me worried a bit. I'm glad that I was able to make it up and down. These are the two climbs that stood out the most.

Awesome scenery and just an incredible challenge for myself and friends physically and mentally. Pagemill was pretty tough even with fresh legs. I'd hate to see how I fare when tired out. I met a few other cyclists as I was climbing and the our "pack" broke up a little. If it were not for the conversations I was able to hold with another cyclist (he was riding a vintageish Trek) I don't know if I would've made it without stopping.

I was riding my Peugeot PSV10, my friend was riding his Rossin, another friend his Peugeot PSN10, another mate riding his Bianchi, and the rest were riding nice modern bikes I'm not too familiar with. I was able to keep up and pass a lot of other riders, but also got passed up myself. Was great fun.

All in all an awesome day and I'm glad I went. The bowl of bun bo hue (hot vietnamese soup noodles with TONS of meat) just topped the day off and I passed out .

Great thanks to Robbietunes for his Century/long ride thread and all the other folks that offered advice. That thread in conjunction with some online videos really helped me make smart decisions when ascending/descending. I like to think that it helped in my overall performance on Saturday and I definitely got over my fear of descending.

Note to self: Scrub off speed BEFORE a turn... I almost ate it when I made the mistake of taking a sharp turn too hot and forced myself to brake skidding and hopping the rear wheel. Close call and a nice reminder of what not to do.

Super days for you, I'm sure. Glad you were with folks, too. Welcome to knowing what it's like.

I tri'd on Saturday. I don't think I had near as much fun as you did....

Hey TP!

Nice one!

Come up to my neck of the woods and get down on this century with me...

Perhaps more of a relaxed attitude for the ride but the climbs will put you in check.

Nice! I lived in the Palo Alto area from 1982-1990 and rode up Page Mill to Skyline a few times. I was in my 20s then, so the legs were much fresher than now, but I do remember that climb as fairly relentless. Of course, back then I used to the Portola Valley loop on my single-speed Columbia middleweight with coaster brake.

Hey, that bicycle climbs website is totally discriminating against me and doesn't list anything in Central Florida!!!!

Good ride report, keep having fun.

Nice job - it's an awesome feeling to finish a good, challenging ride on a vintage bike.
