Today was a bad day v.broke one of the Paramounts

Went down on a wet descent, saved myself from a head on with an SUV (it was 100% my fault, I carried too much speed into the turn)

Something isn't right

Yup...very not right, the cracks in the paint are where the fork crown broke

For reference the bike looked like this 1 week ago

The front rim may or may not be toast, I'll back the tension all the way off and see if it can be trued. Right now it has a section about 2cm off.

And the pilot...

That really stinks, i'm off to pour out a 40 in it's memory...

Not sure what year yours is, but about 10 mins before I read this thread I was surfing CL and saw this:

Ouch.

Sorry to hear of the misfortune. The good news is, we aren't reading about you in the paper. Heal up, and don't despair. A new for and a straight wheel - you might be back out there on it in a week or two.

Sadly the steer tube is too short on that fork. It would cost me more to get that fork + a new steerer put on than get a custom fork built from scratch.

You could probably get a new chrome tange fork pretty cheap. I have one on my Trek, it's nothing fancy but I do like it.

Aye, it was close enough that I pulled my legs in to save them from being run over and there is a tire mark on the grip tape.

Again, the wreck was 100% my fault, the driver of the oncoming SUV did everything they could to avoid running me over shy of driving off the hill.

Is the bruise on your face from the driver punching you because you scared the **** out of him/her?

(joke)

Hows the rest of the bike looking ?

wrk101 08-22-09 05:03 PM

Is that down tube buckled as well, or am I seeing things?

anomaly 08-22-09 05:09 PM

It looks okay as far as I can tell, the chip in the paint was already there. I will have a local builder throw the frame on his alignment table before I move forward on trying to source a fork etc.

Not necessarily. If you like, I can ask the local framebuilder how much it would cost to have the original steerer bored out (with a die grinder - same as I did with that orange frame posted a couple of weeks ago) and a new one brazed in.

In the meantime, one of the Japanese unicrown Paramount forks available on eBay should do you until you have this one taken care of.

that may hurt in the morning. I was wondering about the DT also it might be the pic though

Scooper 08-22-09 05:14 PM

I'm glad you survived relatively intact. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if you'd been on a carbon bike.

RobbieTunes 08-22-09 05:26 PM

Pupils look a little dilated. Did you get checked out?
I'm glad you're here to tell us, too. That's the main thing.
I PM'd you about repairs, in case I can help.

Looks like you need a 58cm fork?
