Repainted Raleigh Competition or International?

How would I tell the difference between a Raleigh International and Competition MkII if the bike was repainted? I've seen both bikes with the same wraparound seat stay and lugs. Thanks. -Scott

An International should have chrome lugs, a Competition wouldn't...you could take off some paint and find out.

Doesn't a International have a square shouldered fork and a Competition have a sloped shouldered fork?
I don't not know the Competition models well enough to be sure.

Seems like the dropouts would be Campy on the International, something else on the Competition.

I have a Competition with chromed lugs, without the sloped fork, with Campy dropouts. I have another Competition with painted lugs, sloped fork, and regular lugs. I have ANOTHER one slopped fork, regular dropouts, with painted lugs, AND painted stays (still has the chromed fork, though...)

Good luck on figuring that out, but I would start with the serial number, then look in the catalogs to see what looks close.

The serial number will tell you the year. Then compare what is in front of you to that year's catalog. (basically what sciencemonster suggested)

As I said, my Competition has chromed lugs - not sure if they are Nervex, but they are really fancy like Nervex, so I assume they are. Look just like an International. I think just this one year, the first, had all the International bells and whistles...

The Competition often came with some fancy "Capella" lugs that were different from the Nervex Pro's on the International. Searching thru the forums here for Capella and Nervex Pro lugs will show the difference between the 2, which is pretty obvious once you see them.

They also used Capella lugs on some Internationals and Super Courses. Raleigh acquired them when they bought out Carlton in the '60s and they used them up in the '70s. There's a picture of an International with chrome Capella lugs in Retro Raleighs.
