Pyramid brake levers - question

So i have been having the damnedest time trying to find some brake levers for my Nitto Promenade B-603 bars, I bought the bars and the brake levers have been sliding all over the place. so i finally realized i need some mountain bike levers.

Well i did find some pyramid brake levers that would fit better. well i bought them, and put them on but i noticed the piece that slides on the brake cable is much smaller than a normal size i believe it is called a Ferrule is this a certain size i ask for, everywhere i go they give me a small sized one but it slides inside the hole and does not sit right.

Yeah, it looks like need something similar to the ferrule that fits the sturmey archer trigger shifters.

Maybe try loosescrews.com?

Niagara cycle has some really nice all silver Shimano mountain bike levers for 15.00 right now, they include lined brake cable housing and stainless cables!

Cheap Wal-Mart/K-Mart Bell-brand cables have similar ferrules to what you have, but with a stepped ridge at the bottom for these smaller holes. A pair of those should do you fine.

awesome thank you all!!!

ill go look tomorrow.
or i might just go and buy some of those other brake levers.

mkeller234 08-26-09 12:17 AM

Yeah, I know what Kurt is talking about... they are under 5 dollars in Ohio.

These are the levers that I meant. It looks like they went up in price by 2-3 dollars:

nice!!! really like those better...
one of my main concerns was the levers not matching my raleigh...
i know it sounds stupid but i didn't want them not to match...

I understand, the new ones don't have the classic look at all. I would try to use what you have if you can. The bell kit is pretty cheap and easy to find.

yeah think your right!

thanx.

Those are for V-Brakes, so if you've got calipers or cantis the action will be a little, not so right.

Those V-brake levers will be downright dangerous. Too much cable pull. Too little leverage.

Dia Compe makes a stepped ferule that should work with your levers. Loose Screws has them. I just ordered some.

use the same ferrule you would use for derailleur cables. There are different sizes, so head to the LBS with your brake lever and try them till you get one that fits. I believe the current "standard" size works, though. I don't recall having any trouble with my Pyramid brakes on my Sprite.

You need a stepped ferule.

This is a picture of the ferrule from loose screws that you should be looking for. The above really won't work too
well.

That's the one.

They're also good for PA10 derailer cables.

jamesj 08-26-09 05:16 PM

yeah i noticed those levers i first posted earlier were for v brakes.

and the velo orange ones i have a pair of those already but they will not sit properly on my nitto bars. they will not sit on those bars...

its a shame really those bars look really nice except they only work with mtb levers.
