1988 Miyata 110

Hello everyone,

I just picked up this Miyata 110 for a commuter/beater bike off my local Kijiji for $100 (hope I didn't get fleeced haha). The original owner said that it has all original components (even bar tape) and it actually has quite the nice paint job for an entry level bike.

Here are the pics, enjoy!:

Well, you paid about $90 more than my older version. Of course, yours has nice paint, dérailleurs, and shifters.

Yes I'm definitely looking to ride it as I am a student and just need it to get around. With regards to the first response, being in the Toronto area seems to have made this purchase a not too shabby one in the end as per this thread https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ght=miyata+110

Oh, you did amazingly well, no matter what market you are in. Although an entry level bike you will love the ride and it certainly looks great. A very nice score on your part.

My comments were more a statement of how your find makes me realize just how ratty of a find mine was, lol.

Haha fair enough. thanks for the compliments, and I wasn't taking any offence to what you had stated I just thought the markets may be very different. The one question I have is whether or not I should leave the stock components or take a couple things from my 710, who's frame has somewhate deceased due to a crack on the seat tube? Any suggestions?

I think it's safe to say your components off of your deceased, (my sympathies) 710 would be an upgrade from the one ten components.

Alright so...

I have tried out the 700c Araya rims from my 700 and they seem to fit with a sufficient amount of clearance. I have some Dia Compe 500's that I'm also thinking of putting on the 110. The major debate I have is whether I should leave the Shimano SIS f/d derailleurs already on the bike with Shimano 600 Arabesque derailleurs I have. I guess the main reason for debate is whether or not the indexed shifting is more worthwhile than the friction shifting 600s.

Furthermore,

Is it possible to use an indexed downtube shifter with friction shifting derailleurs? The suntour shifter off the 710 (yes my cyclone II also deceased but I still have the shifters) is a braze on but it is top mounted as opposed to side mounted like the SIS. Is it worth the effort to put on the arabesques?
