NY Metro Area Ride (Westchester County) on Sundays in September.
The next dates for Bicycle Sundays on the Bronx River Parkway in 2009 are Sept. 13, 20 and 27. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
During Bicycle Sundays, a portion of the Bronx River Parkway is closed to cars for the exclusive use of bicyclists, joggers, walkers, and those with scooters and strollers. The course runs from the County Center in White Plains, south to Scarsdale Road in Yonkers, a round-trip of 13.1 miles. There are many points of entry and exit along the way.
For cancellation information, visit the County Center online or call (914) 995-4050.
Free parking at North White Plains train station. Nice short ride on the Bronx River bike path to the White Plains entry point. A Star Bucks can be found at the Scarsdale Train Station, which is right off the Parkway.
Also, an entry point to the North County Trail is not too far away in Tarrytown, NY. A great place to ride after 2PM.

Anybody interested?

Yeah I am for the 13. I think I can take a train from my place out to North White Plains. I'd probably tag along up to Tarrytown, especially If there's a way to cross back over to the Jersey side afterwards I'd really like to bike home from that ride....I know you can bike across the George, but I dunno about the Tap.

Three mile ride across the Tappan Zee ... with an amazing view of the Hudson ... something to look into. I would also probably be starting out at North White Plains myself, since the bike path to the Bx R Parkway runs right through it. The terrain from there to Tarrytown includes some hills, but there is a route or two that smoothes it out a bit. The North County Trail itself is about as flat as a pool table. Starting at a point near the Tarrytown Resevoir, there is a flat (except for a short incline up to the trail) run of about 5 miles up to a town pool with a nice pavilion with a snack bar and rest rooms.
The Bronx River Parkway has a nice mix of scenic terrain, and fairly decent road surfaces. Bicycle Sundays attracts a wide spectrum of cyclists, from families out for the day to club riders.

I'm gonna try and figure a way to do it...Train doesn't run in my area on weekends so its bus or car.
I checked and biking on the Tap is a no-go. Currently against the law. If I take a car I'll definitely be up for the North County Trail after the Bx River Parkway.
looking ahead to late sept. early october there is also the Bear Mtn Oktoberfest...I always go and always see lots of people biking there coming up the Palisades....

After a few beers they probably wouldn't even mind that crazy down hill run up there at Bear Mountain. Are there any cycling paths up there? The run up towards Cold Spring and Garrison is pretty decent by car.

I think there's a really great ride up 9W, but I've never done it. They're about to open up some access route for accessing the Palisades run from the GWB. My weekend have been booked with wedding planning but it's all culminating next weekend. After that, I'd be totally game for a ride up there, if the wife lets me.

I'm down for this. I've been anticipating the warm weather to go away. I love riding in cool weather (i sweat too much! lol), and i'm a winter baby.
Either way, it'll be a good ride. I take that ride up to Bear Moutain quite often on my motorcycle on weekends. I have to just figure out how to get there from Queens this time. I guess I'll drive up to White Plains and bike it from there.

Probably my '81 Fuji. I will probably use panniers instead of the handlebar bag, though. I was doing this run earlier this spring with the bike, and it worked out alright. I am able to move along at a reasonable pace on it. If not, I will ride my '78 Bridgestone Kabuki Diamond Touring with the handlebar bag on it. I just put new Panaracer Paselas on both bikes. This is the first time I've tried them, and they remind me of something off a 3-speed "English Racer". They seem to be pretty good, though, for the type of riding I do. Yourself?

Starts next Sunday if anyone is interested. Hopefully the weather will be at least half as good as it is today.

Dropped
Long term weather forecast looks good. I'm not yet sure whether I'll join this ride, or do a ride from the GWB to the Bike Jumble. Maybe it's possible to do the Bike Jumble in the first half of the day, then hop on a subway or train and do the Bronx River Ride in the afternoon. Probably not enough time, and I'm not sure how I would get back to the GWB from Tarrytown if the ride continues there.
I'm interested in a NYC ride, however, so I'll go with the consensus decision, if there is one.
