Geminiani, should I have loaded it?
Went to virginia a couple weeks ago to visit my brother.
In the shed he had two bikes, an old Gitane (low end with stamped dropouts and plastic shifters, did have a Brooks pro on it though!) and an old raphael geminiani(?) bike with some very nice ornate lugs, campy components, mavic brakes. It had some unusual (to me) levers, instead of full hoods they just had white 'pads' on the top surface. Only thing that was really 'odd' was it had a seatpost and a saddle that had rails maybe 3/4 inch apart (it did look original with made in france on it, hard black plastic that made me think of early bmx)
They were in the garage when he moved into the house a few years ago, he said I could have them, but I had a too full truck with no room (was a job that brought me close enough to visit so I had the truck loaded with tools) The last registration stickers were from the early 70s (71 and 73) So I know they are at least that old
The gitane I wasn't interested in, but the geminiani was pretty neat, But I've never heard of them (him?) and haven't been able to find a lot of information on it.
What can anyone tell me about that maker?
Thanks
Ken.

You should have him hold on to the Geminiani for you. The upper end models can be really nice. Actually the lower end models are pretty cool as well.
Of course if you have to ask.....You might not be cut out for this type of work

Raphael Geminiani : great rider in the 1950's, later 'directeur sportif' of Jacques Anquetil, and a VERY colourful character to say the least!

Oh, and yes, you should've picked that one up!

Go back and get the Geminiani. It's at least unusual, and might be wonderful.

I have a mid level 60s Gemniani: its quite a nice bike for what it is. Baby blue, nervex lugs, TA crank with Simplex deraillers, Normandy hubs. No tubing sticker, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were Reynolds, its very light. Brakes you're describing sound like MAFAC. I imagine they were made by a big maker and branded Gemniani...

Good information here! He's holding it till I can get beck down, and is willing to ship if I want, so it's not 'lost'.
The blue 'special' towards the bottom on the classics site is nearly identical except for color which was a light bronze color.(may actually be faded brown) The gold over chrome version at the top has the same brake levers. but the whole portrait area (between stripes) on the seat tube is completely faded away.
Now that it's been mentioned, they were Mafac, must have misremembered it as 'mavic'
Was thinking it looked and felt like a higher end bike, alloy rims, campy bar bar end shifters, campy derailers and hubs, with 531 stickers on frame and fork.
It's a 13+ hour drive to his house near richmond so I'm more inclined to having him ship it

If its free, certainly worth the cost of shipping. Somewhere years ago I came across someone who redid the decals, but I have no idea where. Mine are fairly intact if you need pictures...
