Please help me identify a bike

Can you identify this bike?

I have no idea of what make it is because when I bought it was painted with a thick black paint. I cleaned it up to the frame, but I was unable to identify any labels. So here is what I know: Vitus frame, aluminum alloy I think, Nervar aluminum cranks, Shimano 600 front and rear derailleur, Suntour cassette, Maillard hubs, Weinmann brakes and brake levers (marked 1982), Shimano Z401 shifters, aluminum seat post, the chain has "France" writen on it.

Thanks

Check the frame with a magnet. If it does not stick, it may be a Vitus "bonded aluminium" frame. These were light, but would break very easily.

Hi

It does stick so I guess it's not "bonded aluminum". Mean while I've gathered some info and I think it's a Peugeot. I've found a site with old Peugeot calalogues, but 1982 was missing. Anyway, thanks for your help.

The PF10 was the vitus framed model from around that time. Made with Vitus 181 double butted steel. Very nice bike.

A Swiss-threaded BB would indicate late 1970s or early 1980s French or Swiss manufacture. A French-threaded BB would indicate earlier French production.

Thank you

Very inexpensive Peugeots also used Vitus plain guage tubing. If the word "Vitus" is stamped into the metal, it is such a cycle.
