Sometimes even I get lucky!
This is my new acquisition! A really nice Le Tour. I bought it from a older gentleman who told me he bought it new and wanted someone to buy it who will restore it. Price? $75!
The man said after he bought it he bought a Dawes and liked it better and didn't really use the Schwinn too much. Said it has been sitting in a closet for the last 30 years. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ills/001-5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ills/002-5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ills/003-6.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ills/004-7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ills/005-6.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ills/006-6.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ills/007-7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ills/008-8.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ills/012-8.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ills/014-6.jpg |
Nice! That Brooks is probably worth the $75 alone.

Nice find! I had just sprung for another bike so I had to pass. Glad you got it.

Its a beauty Clark

Looks very nice indeed! Love those old randonneur handlebars. And that Brook's saddle! You got yourself a real bargain.
|
That has always been my fav Schwinn color, and the cloud white lettering is always fun to look at!
She's a beauty and thank goodness he saved the Owner's Manual! :thumb: |
Thats what I call SEXY! :thumb:

I just finished a bike like that for a friend. I bought the frame, fork, bare handlebars, derailleurs, crankset, and brakes together and got a donor bike for wheels/freewheel, shifters, saddle, and brake levers. Pedals from LBS. Nice find. Especially with that saddle. Those bars are cool too.

a coupla questions.
what model Brooks is that and how should I treat it to bring it back to life? It is really not so bad as it's pretty pliable! I looked the bike over and can't seem to find a serial # Where did Schwinn put them on the early Le Tours? I like to verify if it's a '73 or '74 Are the brakes Dia Compe? I don't see any markings? Thanks |
Give it a rubdown of Proofide (from Brook's) on the top. Then slather the bottom of the saddle with the Proofide. Let it soak in and remove any excess from the top after standing overnight with a soft towel/rag. Leave the underside to keep absorbing. If it feels dried-out on the bottom, give it some more. Repeat every year.
It looks to be in very nice condition. |
Well I guess i should update this thread with this pic:(
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ills/017-6.jpg found on the detail I was performing... I can't believe I missed this:mad: The bike is now sitting awaiting my decision on it's final disposition |
That is a real bummer, though I can't see anything alarming looking at your other pictures. Maybe it's still ok?
|
I feel no bulge on the down tube so I think maybe it was just a flex?
The rust on the lug is what worries me most. I see nothing indicating a crash as to the forks.... |
I don't think the rust looks very serious at all. I bet it could be treated pretty easily.
|
When I was a kid I was going full speed downhill on a mountain bike and hit a cable with the headtube. I went over my bars, but the bike was fine. Are there any marks on the headtube that could make that possible? It looks pretty straight to me.
*****Sidenote***** mkeller, your avatar has always looked familiar to me and I couldn't quite place it. Now I'm noticing the quote. Is that Jello Biafra? |

When I first read "star belly sneetch" I thought it was something out of a Dr. Sues book but the my brain subconsciously continued "you suck it like a leech..." and that's when it hit me.
