getting too personal?

I am always amazed at the different cities and states/countries that all the members live that are in BF.I also see that many do not put their location in their profile.I think more members should go to the user control panel/your profile and put your city/state or country.Just think it would be nice to see where others are located.Am I the only one that finds this info interesting?:thumb:Promise I will not come to your house to check out your bikes or try to mooch a free meal.

I think people skip providing a location because... hey... it's the Internet. We are living in cyberspace. However, even if you don't provide an address, it is usually obvious where you hang out. It just takes a while longer to figure it out.

Seeing how it affects the price so much, having the forum member's location listed can be quite helpful when they are asking about the value of a bike.

And this seems to be a rare corner of the net where genuine interaction can occur. In that spirit, I have been (typically) signing my posts with my first name for years.

I live in the Marion/Gas City Indiana area… I put “ the middle of somewhere in Indiana” as somewhat of a personal joke, and protest. If you would ever watch the Indianapolis News, or the Fort Wayne News (two of the largest close cities), we hardly ever get mentioned even though we are practically dead middle between those two large cities. They don’t even show us on the weather map… One of the Indianapolis stations shows a little town about half our size that’s only ten miles away from us…

The only time we ever get mentioned is if we have a Tornado, or something blows up, or someone is killed, other wise we don’t seem to exist. (maybe that's a good thing) So, I’m in the middle of somewhere in Indiana… BTW… I’m very lucky as far as bike riding goes, I live one mile away from the Cardinal Greenway, and we also have a beautiful river walk trail to ride here in town. And, the last couple of years we have had a Pro/Semi Pro bicycle race here as well. So, all and all not a bad place to live. :)

So far everyone who's replied to this post has a location . . . maybe the sociopaths are just avoiding us.

I bought a keg in Marion en route to the Indy 500 somewere around 80-81, I think, driving a borrowed Winnebago. It was the year Mears won, but Johncock was making up .5 sec/lab at the end. On the way back, we stopped to drop the keg off, and the store was gone. A tornado over the weekend destroyed it.

I don't have a specific location on my profile because I travel extensively. I am based in NC but spend most of my time "on the road". Currently in Bloomington, MN, headed back to Iowa City, IA tomorrow for a few more weeks. Then either off to Monck's Corner, SC or possibly Ozark, Arkansas, then SC. I spent the first part of this year in Circleville, OH. If I had to remember to change my profile every time I changed locations...:twitchy: FWIW I will be back in the Twin Cities in a couple of weeks for the ABCE Tour.

I know. No matter how hard I try, I just can't seem to earn my sociopath merit badge.

Ditto. However, I do reference my location in my sig 'cause I blab about it. It confuses people nevertheless- I'm not from Canada, eh?

Bam42685 09-06-09 10:05 PM

I already had it but revision was necessary. Might as well add an avatar while I'm at it.

Just wait, eventually they'll start wondering where all the hobos went and they'll dig up the garden...

Seems like there's hope for me yet.

Funny but frightening!

randyjawa 09-08-09 04:37 AM

OK - not a bad idea...

I never thought about it but knowing where members hail from would be helpful. I have often thought about how do I buy this or that from him or her when he or she lives somewhere else - and do so with an element of trust. I for one would be more than willing to pick up, pack up and ship a bike to a fellow member if he or she were to find one in Thunder Bay, Canada where I live. Now let's see if I have identified where I live...

ozneddy 09-08-09 04:39 AM

I WANT y,all to know where I,m from (be jealous PPL) lol !

dit 09-08-09 10:57 AM

I agree that at least a general location would be of much interest to a lot of us. I have at times even been somewhat frustrated at the absence of it.

I used to ride thru Gas City/ Jonesburo area with some regularity. It has been 20 years ago though. the twin cities. I have never ridden thru Sweetzer though. hahaha I was raised, and lived in Deleware co. for 45 years.

Because when the Witness Protection Program relocated me they told me to be careful about sharing my new address.
