Help!!
 

I am new here to the forum, and I'm sorry if I am not posting this in the correct thread.
But I just picked up a bike off of craigslist and I was wondering why I couldn't find any information on it. I needed a bike for college and this was the cheapest one I could find. ($55)

Apparently it is a Body Glove Aero Cruiser, and I'm not sure why I can't find any information on it.

Was it worth the $55 dollars?

Sure, 55 dollars is not much for transportation and it looks pretty clean. I would adjust the bars down a bit, and maybe raise the seat if you are taller.

It looks like a basic dept store cruiser, probably not that old. It should be great for cruising around campus.

I have no clue who actually made it, maybe pacific cycles or someone like that.

Better fix those handlebars, or you could put an eye out.....

That's what I thought... $55 for any bike should be a steal right?
Could I have gotten a better used one for $55?

I was just a little skeptical after I couldn't find anything on the brand/model ect.

If you take care of it, it will take care of you. :thumb: Not bad for $55.00. :) Body Glove makes a lot of surfin' stuff, wetsuits and such. http://www.bodyglove.com/ maybe the bike was some bike companys "Special Edition" bike? I'd switch the bars out for something smaller as you will find that wide bars like that will suck for riding in the streets with cars all around you, and those huge bars will also make it hard to go in and out of doorways. All else looks to be in good shape! I'd say you did good.

Well, the used market is unpredictable. Some people seem to find the absolute finest bikes for 10.00 or sitting in the garbage. Still 55 dollars is not unreasonable for most bikes in decent shape.... now if we are talking walmart bikes that changes things a bit since they can be 80.00 new.

You probably won't find a lot of info on that bike since it is lower end. The bike was most likely built by one company and branded for body glove, maybe as a promo give-away. One thing to consider, since it will be a campus bike you don't want a really nice one to attract theft attention.

I,ve never seen one B4 know nuthin about it,but,from wot I can see I recon its worth every bit of 55 bux !

I appreciate all the input! Sounds good then, I feel a lot better about it now. I thought I was swindled into buying a used bike that is a scrap of trash on two wheels.

As for security and protection, what kind of lock do you recommend?
I heard U-Locks offer good protection, but I'm not quite sure how people steal bikes now-a-days.
Don't they just remove the wheels or something?

The bike would have to be locked outside because we aren't allowed to bring bikes into our dorms.

Might be nice to get a lever and cable so you can have your rear brakes working.
As for locking it up, a U-lock through the frame, front wheel and a bike rack is usually sufficient unless you are in an area with hard-core thieves, in which case you will need to bring it inside a secure area at night.

Where and when you lock it is at least as important as how. Use your common sense.

As for locks, a good U-lock (eg. kryptonite) through your back rim where it passes through the frame and then onto something solid, plus a thick cable for the front wheel, whose ends are also secured by the U-lock should be sufficient.

Where are you? (what state/city) Generally, bicycles are a bit less secure on college campuses, so it wouldn't hurt to err on the side of going overboard if it is so critical to you. If in doubt, check with campus security to see what they recommend.

Well I'm in Cali... I'm not sure if it's the same in every state, but it's common to get your bike stolen at many universities. I think I'll just stick with the U-Lock and Cable lock idea.

The only thing is, a good name brand U-lock cost about what you spent on your bike. I think some of the on-guard minis are in the 25ish range.

Look for one that takes a flat key, the style with the round keys can be picked with the body of a bic pen.

Do take it for a ride and make adjustments to the handlebars and saddle so it fits YOU like a glove. And then give us a report, please?

Thanks for the help guys! I moved in and transported my bike without any problems.
The bike works like I'd expect from a $50 bike... it rides, but doesn't do anything other than that. it was hard to see from the picture, but the gear shifter was broken and the wheels were in terrible condition with no caps on them. (Which I already replaced.)

The exterior is also much worse than how it looks on the picture, but that's a good thing because I don't want it stolen.

For security I just bought a U-Lock for minimal protection. I figure if the thief wants that bike bad enough to cut the U-Lock, he can have it.
