27 inch wheelset
Looking for a new set of alloy wheels for an older Schwinn in 27" size. I can't remember for the life of me where I got the last set I bought but they were pretty cheap and have worked really well. Help I'm getting old and feeble

Niagaracycle or bikepartsusa for sure; jensonusa, nashbar, or performancebike have them sometimes.
I got a Velocity 27" 130mm 8/9/10 freehub from Nashbar but haven't seen them in a long time. |
bikepartsusa.com ... The spacing listed on the site is 125 (should read 126), pay attention to the various model, the not so subtle differences are listed subtley. They have steel & alloy. The steels aren't as heavy as older steels were on cheapo bikes years ago. Last time I needed fronts I went with steels.

Thanks for the memory jog. I remembered Niagra I'll check the others.

I'd be going with double wall/box section, aluminum rims mated to a 126mm freehub. Double rims are much stronger and freehubs virtually eliminate bent axles. Of course, that means you'll need a cassette too, in place of a freewheel, but it's an excellent time to upgrade to 7 speed, HyperGlide or something comparable, as the profiled cogs provide much improved shifting. You may also have to spread the stays to get the hub to fit.

Harris Cyclery has some premade and they'll do customs, too.
