Cineli Bi Plane handle bars??? Tell me about them.
One of my flip bike had these on it. Thought they were interesting so I kept them. just a hair under 44cm. The Stem is Cineli and I belive the bars are as well but I have not peald off the tape to verify that yet.
I know they were not original to the bike I took them off. The bike (460 Technium) had a bunch of higher end parts that were early 90's on it that obviously were swapped on. The bars have Shimano BL-Z304 levers. Other parts that may not be original to the bike are BR-Z57 brakes, 105 Cranks and 105 indexed down tube shift levers.
So what would these parts have come on originally? I cant seem to find a picture of anything else with these on it. Thinking about throwing them on one of my Commuters.
Figure I could put the head lights on the lower bar to clean up the dash board some and give some room for in-lines.

Sometimes they were called touring bars, just an alternative hand position, maybe for riders who spend a lot of time in the drops and just want to move their hands around a bit. Makes sense, but I"ve never tried them.

Those are probably scott drop-ins. From what I have read they were heavy and flexy when compared to normal bars, and a lot of riders could not use them because their knees hit.
The idea was that you could get an extra hand position while still being aero.
They were a fad for a short while and people stopped using them when they went out of fashion. But nobody sent Greg Lemond that memo and he kept using them for a long time.

Don't know whether anyone else made something similar, but yep - I had a set of these Scott bars. I didn't like the flexiness and they weren't really useful, but they were fun for their quirkiness.

I have some of the scott bars.
I was going to get rid of them but I like your idea of using them for lights, etc, to clear up some cockpit space on a commuter.
