Let well-enough alone?
I'm considering converting my TA Pro V5 triple (26-36-46) to a double, 30-46 or 30-44. Cost is not a concern since I have all the parts necessary for the conversion. My purpose in converting is to improve chainline, simplify shifting, and lower Q-factor. Also, I may change the rear deraillure from a Campy Chorus 10spd to a Simplex SX410. Is this conversion worth the time and effort?

If the wider Q factor of the triple really bothers your knees, I'd say yes. If it's a question of aesthetics, I'd say no.
In terms of the mechanical advantages, I'd say that while it's true some triple set-ups (especially indexed) require more finesse to work well, you're better off finding the sweet spot for your current set-up than making a full-scale switch. Oh, and if it's for the pure aggro-fun of unnecessary tinkering, then, again, yes by all means do it. |
Sound advise. Thanks. BTW my shifting is via Dia-Compe Silver bar-end friction.
