help finding info on these bikes.

Had a pair of bikes dropped off to my little bike shop for consignment. Aparently purchased in Germany from a local bike builder named Kurt Fender. Custom built Steel lugged. Can't find any info on them from any search engines. Bikes are from the early 1970's I would guess. Downtubes just say "Fender" and the badges read "kFs". Components are Campy Rally deraileurs, Dura-ace brakes on one campy on the other, Campy Record wheelset, stronglight crankset, campy headset... Let me know if you can shine more info on the bikes or a value of them with the components listed. The womans bike also has a brooks saddle with the number 871 on the side. Both bikes now have solid rubber tires. Both are in great condition, I just need to clean them up a bit.

Can't help on the actual bikes but I bet the saddle is a B-72.

Sorry, you are correct. Saddle says B72. Still can't find any info about the bike or any sold lately. They would be super nice riding bikes if they ditched the solid rubber tires.

I would love to find a year on the bikes or how many were built. Can't be many around.

Want to know the year? Look up the date codes on the components, see vintage Trek site for details.

I bet they did not need to carry a pump and patches. The only bikes I have seen solid tires on was an old Ordinary that my Grandpa used to ride in the local parades.

Am I the only one who noticed the first (or is it second?) gen Campy Rally Derailleur and Stronglight crank on the "womens" bike?

After doing a lot more research I found that bike shop as well. That is Kurt Fender Jr. His dad passed away some years ago and JR took over the shop and stopped making custom frames. Apparently all the equipment to do it still lay in the back rooms of that shop. I would try to contact them and tell them about the frames I've found but they don't list a email address.

The derailleurs are 1st gen Rally's and both bikes have stronglight cranks sets. Thats what makes me think they are 1974-1979 ish bikes. The guy who owns the bikes emailed me and said he found both frame pumps and is bringing them to me today. I guess he didn't need them with the solid tires.

Ebay? you should clean them up real nice and repost this in the apprasail section. then consider posting them in the for sale section. I should think they would bring a pretty ruble but you need to keep them from people who will simply strip them of the parts. I would have alot of interest in them but the price is likely to be way out of my range.

Thanks for the advice. I think you have to pay to sell things on here though. Not sure if I want to do that. Also don't trust selling things on forums compared to Ebay. I would prefer the bike go to a collector or someone who would appreciate the bike though.

A one year membership on bikeforums is $12. It eliminates the display ads, and it's worth it just for that. It also allows you to sell. A two year membership is $22.

I paid up almost immediately and am glad I did. I've renewed once already, one year memberships, so far. Next time, I'll get a two year.

As you can tell from my post count, I'm not on here enough to really justify it. I do want to get them "appraised" though so I'll be making a thread in that section.

Yes, it is cheaper to pay the $80 to $100 transaction fees on ebay.

a one month trial subscription here costs $3 linky Allows you to post in the for sale forums.

The woman's frame has had its dropouts modified, I'd want to see what they look like without the rear wheel.

And I have no innate desire for a cruiser bike, but if that mens bike dropped in my lap I think I'd like it, just for the novelty factor.
