Sachs Rival RD

I lifted the picture from Mel Pinto's site. He's selling them for $39.95. I'm looking for a RD for my PX10 that has a 52/46/36 triple and a 14X28 freewheel. I'm using a Nouvo Record with a Rally cage now and I'm not happy with the way it shifts. I don't like readjusting after every shift. The Rival will handle it, according to Sutherland's. Has anybody tried this derailer? Will it be an improvement?

You need the long cage version for it to work well with you gear train. Roger

I think that my gear train calls for a mid cage derailer. The long cage I have now is overkill.

I saw that derailluer too. it looked like something I should have 'just in case' but aside from the cage issue I think it would be a perfect for you pugeot. it will be an improvement if it shifts better, and make you happy, which is the paramount reason for have a bike yes?

$35 later don't be surprised if it doesn't work. It may be okay. For $35 you can buy a very good SunTour or a Shimano Crane GS that will do what you want better. My 1974 Paramount full Campy has its Rally in an box should I want to sell it. I use a Crane GS which works about ten times as good as the Campy did. Thats because I want to ride the bike. Its your bike to do with as you please. Roger

I've been trying to keep it all European, but you're right, it doesn't get ridden because I hate the way it shifts.

A Huret Duopar is the obvious solution, but I object to the stamped metal and plastic parts.

The Rival is a good solid derailleur and performs well. The design is based on the later Simplex models and closely resembles both the Simplex and Shimano derailleurs in both appearance and performance.

I think I've got the problem solved. I pulled a long-forgotten Sachs/Huret long cage derailer out of a drawer and installed it. Now I just have to get to the LBS and buy one of their overpriced ss shift cables.

I had it on an old Peugeot mountain bike for a while and it worked great with Shimano 7 speed shifters. I call it my mystery derailer because I've never seen one like it and no one I've shown it to has either. The lable says Neos. I got it from Europe, so maybe they were never sold in the US.

Just look at how close the slant parallelogram puts the jockey pulley to the cogs.

I have one of those. NOS/NIB, just waiting for the day when I build up a rando bike I guess. According to the instructions in the box it was third from the top in Sachs' MTB line.

I have this derailler on my Scwhinn Hybrid, friction shifting a 7-speed Sachs 14-21 freewheel and a 38-46 double up front. Not the lightest RD around but shifts as smooth as glass with very few hang-ups. This is the earlier, single parallelogram version, but I've seen the later, double P versions on ebay (gulp!) which will index shift better.

P.S. I got mine "good condition" used for $3.

It came out looking like this. It's not the correct vintage for the bike, but I don't care because shifting is superb. I can even move up to a 34t big cog if I want to.

That's the later vintage. Good score!
Huret (later Sachs/Huret) made some nice bicycle components. Too bad they bit the (Asian) dust.

I just got an email from Mel Pinto. the website we saw those derailluers on was woefully out of date. they no longer have any Sachs derailluers :(
