VIDEO: Vintage roadbike art gallery exhibit + a bit of fixed-gear sprinting
Did anyone notice that I disappeared from BF over the course of this weekend?
Of course not
But - I dare say C&V might be interested in a recap of what did transpire over the weekend; namely, a gallery display of "functional art." Need I say that it was a celebration of classic road and track bicycles?
I brought along the '70 Paramount, '82 Superior, and the two Raleigh USA machines; they were joined by a Cilo, Bianchi Rekord 745, Pinarello Bassano track, Bridgestone Pista, Peugeot PY-10, and a refurbished 1964 Paramount P-14 Track.
Additional events included a favorite of the SS/FG crowd: Goldsprints - a modern take on the classic indoor roller race - and the screening of "A Sunday in Hell."
I took a few photos of the pre-show setup, though most of the event was captured on video (keep reading):
The video camera was dragged along for the event, and while I filmed more of the Goldsprints and fixed gear tricks then the gallery itself, I dare say C&V might wish to have a look:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQczdP-d4eU
Some estimated that at least 500 people came through the gallery between the 5:00pm opening and 10:00pm closing times. Whatever the actual figure, this was probably the most active event I've participated in, so far.
Take care,
-Kurt
P.S.: @ 1:37 - yours truly on the right, spinning during a Goldsprints match (and pretty miserably too).

I thought you had to chug a beer before starting to pedal in goldsprints? I guess that might be rather odd in the gallery setting though. Looked like fun! Would definitely have gone if it was in my town.

It's for sale (not mine)
That's right. Goldsprints and Open Sprints are the two that are popular, locally. This reminds me - I have a 1966 episode of I've Got a Secret (Steve Allen era) that opens with a traditional roller race:
Might have to post it sometime.
