Need help with the builder of one of my bikes...
 

Hi Gang,
I am a newbie to the forum, but a seasoned exracer in real life. I'm having trouble figuring out the origins of a vintage bike that I purchased at an estate sale some time ago. It is a really well made Columbus tubed frameset with Henry James lugs. It has Super Record throughout similar to my old racebikes in the mid 80's. There was never any info about the maker available. The down tube decal says "Pyramid LTD." I was told by a very knowledgeable lbs tech that it is the name of a now defunct shop in the San Diego area. Does anyone recognise this make? Cheers, Reid

My camera has taken a nose dive unfortunately. I had listed the bike on Ebay a while ago with a high reserve and it's the only photo I've got to work with until my friend brings his camera tomorrow. I've also got the bike in deep storage in the back of the garage and need to move lots of stuff to get to it. I will do that in the next couple days in order to take more closeups for you all. It does have a really nice seat cluster...everything about it is the finest quality. That's why I'm so curious about the builder. I'll keep you posted as soon as I get more pictures. Cheers.

No. Someone felt you needed clarification - which is a good thing to save on any potential room for confusion.

It's not a big deal, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't coming off as rude.

Here's what's currently in "deep storage": A Brian Spitz cyclocross frameset, my Tallerico cross bike, my older Calfee (Carbonframes), a Pake track bike built for my wife, my Corima track bike, 3 folding bikes, 3 kid's bikes for when my daughter gets big enough for each one, my old I.C.E. frame , my cracked alu Willier frame, a very old Raleigh Sprite, 3-4 mixte bikes of various sizes, about 20 wheels, and of course the previously mentioned Pyramid. The garage in front of the deep storage room is piled high with baby items and the combination of 2 separate apts. fully furnished (my wife and I before we married) that is slowly going down as furniture is given away or sold. It's just pretty hard at the moment to get in there and get anything out without scratching them. Soon my friends...soon.

I'd like to see a picture of the "Deep Storage" room as it exists currently.

A Tallerico and a Calfee - you must be from the Santa Cruz area. Never thought I'd run across another cyclist with relatively obscure bikes like mine. My Tallerico is a roadie. Do you know what Jon T is doing these days?

Better pictures of the lugs on the Pyramid
 

Hi gang,
Attached are photos of the lugs and braze-ons. These are about as good a quality as I can get on short notice borrowing a camera. Hopefully they show enough to help decide who made it. There is no sticker to indicate the frame material. After close inspection it looks more like the lugs and tubes of my older Reynolds 531 frames back in the day. A picture of deep storage may not really work terribly well, it takes up the entire back half of my townhouse under 2 bedrooms...kindof like a short roofed basement. I live about an hour north of Santa Cruz and that does weigh a bit on what I own. Mostly because those makes are slightly more prevalent locally here in the Bay Area.

Question about Jon Tallerico
 

Actually I have also lost track of Jon Tallerico as well. He was working as the lead mechanic on the McGuire's race team last I heard, but that was a few years ago. I'm not even sure he's still in the Bay Area. Bicycle Outfitters in Los Altos probably know where he is. I believe they still sell his framesets.

Are the folks stumped by the lugs, etc...on this bike? Any ideas whatsoever?

Woohoo!!! I finally got some more info on this bike.
 

It turns out that it was built by the owner of the shop called Pyramid Cycles in Leucadia, Ca. The shop was sold and is now Leucadia Cycles (great source for anything older in the Klein world...). It was identified by Jim Cunningham at CycleArt as one of several custom frames that they painted many years ago for the shop. I do not have the name of the builder or the tubing just yet, but hopefully in the next few days.

Just an update on an old thread. Jon Tallerico is still building lovely handmade works of art from his shop in Lodi, CA. He is also on Facebook as well. I ran into him at NAHBS in Sacramento. The bikes he had on display there at his booth were stunning.

Man this is an impressive update, and return to the forum. Kudos for getting back here.
