Who made the Allez SE ?

Anyone know who made the 1984-86 Allez SE for Specialized? Miyata? Thanks

dudeona3V 10-13-09 06:51 PM

Panasonic? Yoshi Konno built some around that time as well. Post some pics and maybe that'll help identify.

I believe the 83-84 Specialized Expedition had Ishiwata 022 tubing, but I've never read a definitive statement to confirm that. Others have suspected Tange. It may be important to nail down the exact year. I've read that by 86, much of the Japanese frame operations were being moved to Taiwan because of the declining exchange rate.

There's no conclusive answer to your question. Search the posts going back one day or less.
A few of us were able to narrow one down..Kinda. Specialized is not a bike builder, they sell bikes.
Anyway why...? you got one ?.. show some oics, list some stats... get some answers.

These fellows just now DID list possibilities though.

Miyata did not, HOWEVER, some SEs were made by San Rensho, very rare ! Later on, I've read Giant so..??? Even if you have no pics, listing stuff helps. Specialized Road Bikes are bastids, they're all over the place as for as nailin' 'em down. SEs were never sub-standard either way. Most still have difficuly ID'n 'em, even old guys.

Yes, Miyata did make some of the SE, but not all. Posting the serial number may allow us to identify the year and manufacturer.

Serial number AS60997 Jim Merz on chain stay. Thanks

Jim Merz is the designer. He also designed the Expedition. At least, that is my understanding.

This one is not Miyata but definitely Japanese and a 1986 model, Please post a good, drive side pic.

1986 would rule out Yoshi-san as well and pre-dates Tesch (dang - that would've been a find). My guess is still Panasonic, but we'll need pics.
