Does anyone remember…

Perhaps this was a vivid dream, but I seem to remember a thread where a guy proudly posted pics of his fixie with multiple large diameter holes drilled in the main tubes (and maybe the rear triangle as well). Does anyone remember this thread? I would love to follow up with the person to get a report on collapse of the frame and see if he has recovered from his injuries.

I remember that .... Not sure if he was actually going to ride it .... I thought it was more "art"

RobbieTunes 10-21-09 03:49 PM

Well, if he rides it, Art will be Mat, unless he's near a stream, then he'll be Bob.

Chombi 10-21-09 04:26 PM

He must be the poor cousin of the engineer who came upwith this:

the Arantix Delta open lattice bike frame.......I think it would be safe to ride this one!

Oh yeah, I remember that one. He may have been planning to ride it... or maybe we put words in his mouth?

IIRC he definitely WAS planning to ride it and was sort of scared back from the brink...but there was no follow-up that I ever read.

Unless he crashes into a pile of leaves, then he'll be Russell.

The Arantix reminds me of the Titus Exogrid, another fine example of engineers gone wild.

I remember the drill-happy guy also, I recall someone commenting that the frame would sound like a tin whistle :roflmao2:

I remembr that too. there was a much nicer bike posted in that thread that hand 'factory' holes in the tubes as well.

Wasn't it a Masi?

Noah Scape 10-22-09 05:42 AM

I think he was definitely planning to ride it and felt pretty confident that all would be fine. I briefly searched for the thread, but with no luck. I'd love to locate the pic... I wanted to show it to a friend of mine.

Bianchigirll 10-22-09 06:16 AM

it may been a Masi. I tried the search feature and used... drilled frame, in and out of quotes, lightening holes, holes in frame, I gave up after about an hour

mkeller234 10-22-09 06:33 AM

Yeah, I have been searching like a mad man and came up empty too.

SingeDebile 10-22-09 07:02 AM

i kept scrolling down this thread hoping that by the end someone would have found it hehe! ill do my part to search

Noah Scape 10-22-09 01:38 PM

I searched for everything I could think of too, but no luck!:(

This is one perforated Masi

http://www.speedbicycles.ch/234/index.html

There was another on Wooljersey but the server froze on me, the yellow one in there has additional slots in the fork.

The yellow fill-in paint looks like it was done by a child.

ZOMBIE ALERT

once again I wasted an hour looking for this thread. surely someone has it booked marked. IIRC some of the frames were beautifully done.

I found this and a few chainstay slots on flicker

Back when I was in college there was a racer (who was also a machinist) that took an uneventful frame and drilled large holes horizontally and vertically through all the tubes and used it as his training bike. As far as I know, it never failed.

...yet it made a peculiar whistling sound when ridden...
