good thing we are all packrats LOL. I happen to have a box that a front wheel plus there tubulars were shipped to me in. USPS was $20 from Alexander Va to here in Cherry hill NJ. I think the rear was slightly more so about $40 to 45 depending on the distance

I never use shipping W/O tracking but in some cases that's good to know.
Distance only adds so much, it's how one packs 'em that counts; 25 X 25 X 7"
The wheels fit in the box canted, remember .. boxes can be scrounged from LBS.
Having home pick-up adds to the cost, rather than brining them to the depot.
Com. places get a better deal than we do. FedEx sometimes beats-up boxes and in any case, use stuff to keep the axles from punching through; c.board sleeves.

If you generate a USPS label online, I believe you get delivery confirmation free. At the post office, it's another dollar or so.

Or is tracking with UPS superior in some way? Easier to track a lost package?

Good to know about the on-line thing.
Tracking's helpfull for e-bay for instance, satisfies curiosity if trust is an issue. Selling them cheap it matters less. Tracking #'s are a matter of course in some realms.

USPS (Post Office) tracking and delivery confirmation is B.S. It only tells you when it was shppied and when it was delivered. It doesnt tell you anything else.

FedEx tracking will tell you where you package is each step of the way and give an 'anticipated' delivery date.

I still go Parcel Post and don't worry about it. Only thing that's not made it is a set of bottle cages to Wisconsin. I'm still steamed, but it wasn't a sale, just trying to help out.... I ship wheels for about $20 Parcel Post.

The only thing I'm really concerned about is confirmation that the item is delivered, in the event the recipient claims otherwise. I agree that knowing when an item is expected to arrive is nice, but does it help when attempting to track down a lost package? Anyone know?

No, it realt doesnt help finding a lost package. Delivery confirmation is B.S., it simply means it was delivered, it doesnt mean someone signed for it, it just means the letter carrier delivered it.

That's all I really care about, so a recipient can't claim it was never delivered. If it was stolen from the stoop, the dog ate it, or the wife threw it out, it's not my problem.

Old Fat Guy 10-25-09 05:25 PM

If it's truly lost/stolen, believe me, a tracking # from Fedex/UPS isn't going to help.

I sent a set of wheels from MI to WA for $26 via Parcel Post w/tracking. They arrived just fine in less than a week.

+1

More often than not I'll get a package I'm expecting before USPS tracking site says it's delivered. It's not uncommon for me to get a package before it's even in their computer system at all. I'll type the number, it will say that there is no record, then later that afternoon my package will show up. I can't wait for the same people to run hea... I probably shouldn't go there.

My last shipment of wheels a couple of weeks ago cost $38 with UPS to the East Coast. I'm shipping another set tomorrow and will use USPS.

When I had a functional DHL terminal nearby it was $19 to send wheel sets.

RobbieTunes 10-26-09 05:17 AM

Yours goes out today.

UPDATE: post office said "balloon" so I ran. Fed Ex tomorrow.

And as for a set of wheels, today I shipped a set, in a Trek wheel box, to NJ from NC, $15. I also shipped a frame to western NC from eastern NC, $16. Parcel Post, keep the length + girth down and it's not too bad....
